Anyone familiar with the Sony Z1u camera's might be familiar with the Shot Transition feature, which is actually a pretty cool feature, but is limited. Essentially what it does is allow you to set two settings which inlclude focus, zoom, iris and shutter, and with a button allows you to transition between the two presets over a set amount of time. You can use this to do some really cool things like rack focusses and precise smooth zooms etc. However what would be great is something that takes it much further. First off you would want to be able to turn on or off which attributes are being affected by the transition feature. I had a situation where I was using the sony to do a rack and all I wanted it to do was affect the focus, but the lighting kept changing and I had to keep resetting the transition because I coulnd't change the iris, because it was being controlled by the shot transition feature. Also instead of a button with a preset timer on it, having a dial or slider would be great. Just like a video mixer applies its transitions with a slider, you could ease the transition in, or back it out. An added feature would be to give it a LANC control, or some other remote way of triggering the transition remotely. Someone mentioned speed ramping, and this could be the perfect control for that. I realize that the focus, zoom and iris are all going to be dependent on the lenses more than the camera. But there are plenty other options within the camera that it would be great to be able to control this way.
