short hallway clip

Runner Up.
Hey guys,

I haven't posted anything in awhile, mostly because I don't have an editing system yet. Anyways, I DP'ed a short film a few weeks ago with my beatufiul 100a and it turned out well. This clip is for a 'dream sequence' that was in the movie. Very cliche I know, but we based it off a short story that had a dream in it.

Anyways, I told the director we need to have some other color besides blue for the dream to feel different. Blue is too natural a color for night time. So with my DVX skills in hand, I got the color I wanted. This was all done in camera. This was one of my favorite shots in the whole movie, we splashed some music on there just to get a feel for it. The music we got from the atomfilms.com website.

20 megs - encoded h.264 (it may take awhile to load, but please watch!)

Nice color and smooth dolly work, but it's a litle dark. the front of him is in cast shadow most of the time. I think even a small bit of lighting from the front would help blend the dark and light areas. Apart from that, nice CC.

Rapier,

Thanks for the comment. As for the darkness and shadows, I go by my own rule, are there not shadows in real life? Since it is part of a dream, I didn't want perfect lighting. Dreams are dark and dreary, with splashes of color here and there. Once again, I appreciate your comments, but I guess everybody won't be satisfied with the final product.

I thought the shadows looked great. It fit the music you used perfectly. Rapier's right, it would give a better image if you had a bit more light in front, but right isn't always right, now is it? Darkness can be good. :)

hey guys, thanks for the comments. you made my night.....i'm studying for an anthropology test and this was a great study break. i will definitely post the film when i'm done. be on the look out!

Great shot, i want to see more also!! i love the dark stuff and agree that everything does not need to be "perfect" the image should serve the purpose of the film. Great colors too.
