Short Film - Shot on DVX100A - Need Feedback

Hey Geoff,
I was lucky that I was able to find good theater actors down here in S. Florida that were willing to work for Food and a Copy of the Film. I had worked with the main actor before on a feature "Omission" that was picked up and is now in the distribution process. We had about four rehearsals couple weeks before the first weekend of shooting and we shot the film in 2 1/2 weekends (about 5 1/2 days) Budget was about $500.00. Most went to the composer. I was the Director/DP/Editor so that saved us some money.

My crew was mostly my friends. Not very experienced, but loyal. There was an average of 5 to 6 people helping out behind the camera. Some I've worked with in the past few projects. But on this shoot, almost every shoot-day we had a new face helping out. We had to teach them to hold the Mic and use the reflector.

Over all it was a lot of fun. Thank you for your feedback.

Now that's the true essence of independent film.^^^
Did you only use one camera?

We had two DVX100As to shoot with, but 90% of the time we used one camera.

Peaches? LOL, my favorite part of the movie.
Hey Aram, I thought the cinematography sucked!
Not really!

Aram,

I am curious how the M66 worked out for you, the sound in your film is very professional. Sound is usually the weak leg of most independent films I have seen. Did you use most of the location sound for the final cut or was there a lot of ADR work done? I ask because I am looking into getting an M66 soon.

Thanks.

Hey Greg,
The M66 worked out great. I was very strict about the audio and made sure it was 2 to 3 feet away from the action. No ADR work was done. Yes, I used the location sound for the final cut and some filters to cut off some of the unwanted thumps from cable noise.
I spent many hours making sure the ambiance sounds and volume levels were correct.

I like the M66, I can only speak for that one. However, when I was shopping for this one I read the Audio-Technica AT897 is good too for the money.

Wow. That was really good. I'm always watching things on dvxuser and my friends come over and gripe for me to get off, but this one had some of them interested enough to sit through the whole thing. If you knew my friends you'd be impressed! Good work, sound is awesome, but it really shows how important good actors are in creating a professional looking short.

TOTALLY AWESOME work! Echoing what others have already said, this is (by far) the best short I've seen on this site. Your work is proof that, even without a budge, high-quality work can be done as long as there's good talent. You did a SUPERB job directing and editing but without your actors, your film could have easily suffered. Great acting!

This was shot in 24p, right?

Nice work indeed. POV shots, nice sound, great location, great actors, entertaining plot.
Totally worth every megabyte downloaded :).
