Shot this 30Min. Short Comedy with the DVX100A. Please, be patient. I think it will be worth your time. I'd love some feedback...

Synopsis:
A Much Too Open House - Comedy - 2005
Carl Rayner proudly sets up his first open house as a newly-licensed real estate agent. It doesn't take long, however, for him to notice that this open house seems to be attracting more than its share of eccentric types. Is it his imagination, or is this house drawing every wing nut in town? And what can he do when he receives news that brands the property as unsellable at any price?

This look like it was shot on a Panavision rather than a Panasonic DVX100A. Incredible. What did you use for lighting?

i agree. that was very well made. story well told. a bit confusing here and there but I get it...

it was very pro.

Thank you for all the feedback. Please keep them coming.

I thought it was very well put together, it's hard to keep a film interesting particularly when it's set in one location. The only thing I didn't really like about it was the occasional shot that zoomed in (except for the ones where he sees the sprinkler), they just felt a bit amateur, similarly with some of the transition edits.

Overall a very well done film, directing and acting was very good. Great job.

Very impressed. Good performances, funny... I felt it dragged just a little in the middle, and the ending felt a little cheesy to me honestly, but overall I think you have a very good short on your hands. Congratulations.

I loved the part where he was coming up with excuses for people not to buy the house, I thought he had lost his mind but then the ending reveals it all. Very nice!

Very very nice.
Only thing I'd like to critizise is the sometimes shaky camera.
Very good acting as well.
I loved the outtakes at the end.

Oli

i liked it. what was funny about it was that the transitions that some people here call amatuerish are the same transitions that george lucas uses in the star wars films.

my only beef are he zooms in the beginning, they were too obvious of zooms.

That was my favorite piece as well. It's always funy watching somebody go nuts

I agree some of the zooms were a bit amateur looking. May have done it one too many times. However, the transitions were to make it as quirky as possible with out making it into a Wedding Video.

Thanks Guys!!!

Dude i dont think the cheap zooms and wipes and fades made the movie look amture at all! that was the whol point anyway to make it look corky. It was made to look like a sitcom type feel, but if you hadnt used the zoom and wipes and fades throughout the whole movie then i dont think the point would have been effective enough. The only way to use wipes like that is to use them on a film that calls for it and this one clearly called for it.

Well done, very professional. Probably the best DVX short I have seen. I am curious how large/experienced your crew was and how long the shoot lasted. Can you give any details?

Hey Geoff,
I was lucky that I was able to find good theater actors down here in S. Florida that were willing to work for Food and a Copy of the Film. I had worked with the main actor before on a feature "Omission" that was picked up and is now in the distribution process. We had about four rehearsals couple weeks before the first weekend of shooting and we shot the film in 2 1/2 weekends (about 5 1/2 days) Budget was about $500.00. Most went to the composer. I was the Director/DP/Editor so that saved us some money.

My crew was mostly my friends. Not very experienced, but loyal. There was an average of 5 to 6 people helping out behind the camera. Some I've worked with in the past few projects. But on this shoot, almost every shoot-day we had a new face helping out. We had to teach them to hold the Mic and use the reflector.

Over all it was a lot of fun. Thank you for your feedback.

Aram
