Short Film - Mobsters, Pretty Girls & Violence

Here is a recent short film I did. Shot it with a Canon T2i and a single 50mm 1.8 lens (its the only one I got). A buddy of mine came over with his Red and he shot one scene for me... I think it ended up in the final cut... not sure.

Shot it over 3 nights. Budget was 150.00 but I think we spent 250.00

Crew was family and friends.

Shot, written and edited myself.

Let me know what you think. Thanks.

What do you mean you "think" the RED footage made it into the final cut? Didn't you edit it yourself? So, shouldn't you know?

Just curious...

Lol... yeah I should, but I don't... I don't have a powerfully computer so I got the Red files sent over to me at 1080p as quicktime MOV files. I shot the same scene with same camera position as my friends Red. So when I was editing it (which was a fast edit - 1 1/2 days) I threw everything in one bin... no naming no organization just a fast cut... I'm pretty sure the Red shot is there though (poker scene)...

Like the poker scene more than others.

What is the name of the artist and album you use in this short? Really nice and fit the tone.

Have to agree with you 100% here. The song was Broken Homes by Tricky. I thought the whole thing was rather well done and, not surprisingly, shared some stylistic aspects of the music video that was released for the track back in the late 90s. My only large criticism of the piece is that it seemed a little long for what it was. I would have liked to see it answer more of the questions it asked given the time-frame.

FO> Was the desert scene legitimately shot under headlights or did you use the headlights to establish the light source and then bring in other lighting? I'm new to this whole thing and am trying to pick out techniques from what I watch.

Cheers,
Dave
