*****I finally finished this film and have it posted on my site:

I would love some feedback. It is pretty much locked but I still want to do some minor changes with color grading.

I am about to shoot a short film and really wanted to step it up on this one so we did a day of test shooting at one of the locations. I would really appreciate any feedback on the shots, lighting, look, etc as I respect the opinions in this forum. One disclaimer is that if you see a light source or reflection of a light I am aware of that, we were just doing tests, so moving furniture to get lights in the exact spot was not priority. Also, all of the subjects are just part of the crew, not the actual actors.

Here's the link:

We begin shooting this weekend so tear it up so I can put it back together!

*I've put a ROUGH cut together of the first 4 minutes of this short. You can check it out here:

Let me know what you think.

About half way through when the woman comes into the shot, there is a reflector or something in the top left. Also, your actors look at the camera a lot...

Just playing.

I liked your location. I personally think the softer looking shots are more pleasing than the sharper shots. There are two about half way through also when the guy with the green shirt is laying on his side. One he is real sharp and so is the green of his shirt then the other is a little paler, i like the paler look more for some reason.

My two cents

good test. i often see a lot of yellow-milky looking colors when people use a short 35mm DOF adaptor. have you noticed this too?

Yea, the location is great. It's a building called the "Glass House" with giant windows everywhere.. I agree with the paler look, I think it gives it a little more depth. We decided on that shot, which is with a 120mm lens.

I did color correct the shots, adding a little yellow to the whites and mids. Is that what you mean? I think the milky part comes from points with a shallow focus and the way that effects the light.

I like the room, has a nice mood to it.

Yea, lighting is a little difficult, but the room itself is really great. The giant windows make for some really dynamic compositions as well as the fact that there is another identical building in the background.

The soundtrack is nice. In the second half, the ambiance reminds me of "eraserhead"

good job.

Excellent work, I loved the mood used for the room, color correction was very nice and refreshing. How long is this short movie going to be?

Yea the music has that kind of off, uneasy tone. I got it from the free sound project site (freesound.iua.upf.edu), check it out its an amazing resource. We are going to score it ourselves, but I just threw that in to get some ideas.

Thanks, I definately wanted the mood to be nice and refreshing to kind of contrast with the off-tone of the main character. This short will probably be around 6-10 minutes when finished. We have two more days of shooting left..

Excellent buddy, I'm looking forward to the final cut. If it's not too much trouble, if you're putting the video online, let me know.

Great job, I keep saying the mood of the short was great, because it definitely was. Storywise the short was entertaining, it satisfied me at least...I kind of expected more from the twist at the end, but overall the short was very nice, congratulations.

Thanks marco, I am glad that you feel we got a strong mood across. Thanks for the criticism, there are a lot of things I would have done different but I am happy that it is at least entertaining and watchable. Its always a learning experience and I learned a lot with the production of this short.
