Indifocus cuts them as short as 10" for the indirailsPro...if I were you I would call and ask if they can include the riser plate thing and the giotto quick release they use with the DSLR system...normally the DSLR stuff is 12" rails minimum if you're buying rails for some reason.
I guess I'll try calling tomorrow if I get time. I'm creating my own contraption and just need max 8" rails and a plate to attach the rails to the camera. That will then get mounted on my existing shoulder mount that doesn't have rails. I'll mount a follow focus to the rails. Even the big riser plate is going to be too big. If I could get the IndiRAILSpro in 8" I think it would be perfect.
And I'll also have waist support for the weight with a shock absorber for walking. Not as good as a steadicam but it will work well enough for now. It's the Varizoom shoulder mount and I'm also putting a shoe extension on it to hold the H4n and two wireless lav receivers.
I don't need the quick release since I have all those already. When I'm done I'll be able to quickly get the camera on/off tripod, shoulder mount, Modo Steady, and car mount, all with or without follow focus, in 10 secs. And I'll even be able to remove the camera from everything for normal use like a regular dSLR camera.
FWIW to you I'm in the process of getting my rail rig together. Shoot35 in UK who makes the SGBlade 35mm adapter have some nice rod gear. I bought two of their Tripod clamps, one Raiser Block and a pair of 10" aluminium rods and could concoct this little rig. Took the tripod plate from one clamp and put it on top with the raiser between and use the other clamp on front end for stability. Put the quick release for my tripod on bottom and a Manfrotto 323 quick release on top for the camera but that's not necessary, the camera can be attached directly to the plate. (The plastic part sticking out underneath in front is a temporary shim as the screw I had around is a bit too long, I'll replace it with a washer as soon as I can pass by a hardware store.)
They also have 6" and 3" rails and they are threaded so can be extended as needed. I got two 3" as a extra to be able to connect a shoulder mount at the back end if I decide to do so. All parts are very well machined and a real joy to toy with and assemble. Wayne Kinney there was really helpful answering a lot of silly questions from me and then shipped the same day I placed the order on their web shop plus even assembled the Tripod part just to make sure it worked as I wanted. Nice chap!
Wow, that is an unlikely place. Thanks for the tip, but I actually just ordered IndiRAILSpro in 6" earlier today. I needed a mounting plate too, so it fit the bill nicely.
