We went out and shot this in about 2 hours on a Saturday a couple of weeks ago.

We had access to 2 AR15's which is the M16 Civillian equivalent. We hit a surpluss store on the way out into the desert and even had some advising from my buddy Ben who just finished processing and is home from 2 tours in Iraq as a tank driver.

We are using this video along with a couple others to talk about the freedom that comes from sacrifice.

Let me know what you guys think!

Wow. 26 Views, no comments. Uh, OK more info then!

All shot on HVX, Cinegamma D 720 24PN. We used a smoke machine on set to give us the "FOG OF WAR"and we posted in Combustion the explosion and some of the DOF in the shots.

1 HUGE challenge is the AZ desert and Saguaro cactus. We had to be careful to not include it, but you can see it if you are looking.

Favorite shot is the Slo-Mo of my friend carrying me at the end...

God I need to get my M2!!!

Very Very Very Nice footage.

However the SFX look real fake.

I would also try to make the color feel "colder" and more towards true white balance, as the warm 70's film looks washes out their uniforms into the background.

Bro, nice footage and the music complimented the scenes. But the concept wasn't new or original, pretty much the same propaganda that's coming out of Army and Navy commericals. And just my opinion, sadly the sacrifice the men in uniform are making is for a losing cause e.g Vietnam.

Best of luck!

Funny...Where is your data that we are losing??? I thought that to get the best info, you go direct to the source.

e.g. How's your marriage--Lets ask your wife.

Deaths down by 85% over last 3 months...Yeah, we're really getting our butts kicked!

Seriously, uninformed opinions are propaganda not well-supported beliefs that contradict your own.

Now you're going to tell me that even though we have had our coldest season in the last 300 years of recorded history that Global warming is a HUGE issue.

TY DJDECAY.

I will mess with the CC a bit. Your point is well-taken. FX is a first-run at it. Down and dirty. Will work a little harder on it!

:P

I just had the luck of making a video presentation with a company burnin' up plenty of ammo with m-4's. All day long, there wasn't a single visable muzle flash in any of the footage shot. Granted, most of them had "silencer" style suppressors. Even the pistols failed to show much more than recoil with a bit of smoke and the spent shells flying all very fast.

I guess it's a matter of how realistic you want it but I would suggest toning down your flashes and limiting them to just 1 frame each.

nice job keeping most of the cacti out of the shots.

Decent footage. I aggree that the CC and the F/X need work...the flashes do need to be only 1 frame.

Lets keep this discussion on the technical level please. No political commentary.

I concur. Unless the rifle is a SBR (Short barrelled rifle) or one of the smaller Krinkov variants of AKs, the flash is hardly noticeable at ALL in the day light.

Now, to make it more realistic, try adding DUST and DIRT flying when they are shooting prone. I can tell you for a fact THAT would add alot of realism to it!

Good stuff.

Thanks guys!!! Good points all around.

I will look at muzzle flashes and dirt CG.

Audience is for our church this Easter weekend. We are doing a story that parallels the story of Christ. We are using the verse "No greater love than this, than a manwho lays down his life for his friend."

Anout aspect ratio on webclips, I am pretty sure they are correct, but will look into it.

As always, Thanks guys for your help!

Pretopost,

For the "No Greater Love..."theme, I don't know if you listen to any bluegrass but there's a great "Nickel Creek" tune called "The Hand Song" that I've always thought of using it as a basis for a short.

Keep at it, I'd like to see the finished product.

Nice job man! SLOW MO should be your best friend though..
**POLITCS FOR a 10th of a SECOND**
Global warming doesn't have anything to do with what our temperature is for one year, it's a bit bigger than that (like glaciers melting, sea levels rising, sea temps rising, ozone (what ozone?) ) like you said, when you do know about something........... Keep to the military and not the global stuff.. Email me if you want to continue this..

Otherwise NICE JOB :-)

Why speak about military propaganda only at a technical level, when such propaganda is a political statement?
I think such kind of self censorship is very dangerous - please think about this point ! Also on DVX.user.com - there is no technical world outside the real world!!!

Its not censorship, its DVXuser code of conduct.

Hey, first off, I want to say that your work is nice and I enjoyed your vid.

You say, "Funny...Where is your data that we are losing???..."

To make it crystal clear that America is losing the war, and it's just not me trying to spread propaganda, I’ll quote the commander in chief himself, aka The President, a quote he said only 5 months ago.

"We're not winning, we're not losing," Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post about the Iraqi war.

Below is the link to the Presidents quote

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/19/AR2006121900880.html

Okay, the only OFFICIAL DATA we have on the Iraq situtation is “The Iraq Study Group Report” . And this report wasn’t done by some left wing liberals but by both past and present Republicans and Democrats. The report was a 10 member panel chosen by the then Republican Congress to assess the situation in Iraq. It is the only report commissioned by a U.S goverment body.

You say “Funny...Where is your data that we are losing??? I thought that to get the best info, you go direct to the source”

Well, lets look at the source and see what the REPORT says:

"The situation in Iraq is grave and deteriorating”.

“Current U.S. policy is not working, as the level of violence in Iraq is rising and the government is not advancing national reconciliation.”

“…U.S. troop levels would not solve the fundamental cause of violence in Iraq…”

All the above information can be checked by reading the report or checking wikipeida the link for both is below

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iraq_Study_Group_Report#_note-1

http://www.usip.org/isg/iraq_study_group_report/report/1206/index.html

You say "the death tolls are down by 85 percent”

Well let’s see what some of the leading newspaper have to say about that:

CNN: “The number of Iraqis wounded in March was similar to the total for February -2,708 in March, compared with 2,702 the month before”. “If the new figure is accurate, the bombing would be the worst single attack on civilians since the war began in March 2003.”

http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/03/31/iraq.main/index.html

AP, AFP, Reuters: “April 1, 2007 -- The Iraqi government has raised the death toll from a truck-bomb attack in the northwestern town of Tal Afar on March 27 to 152 -- making it the deadliest single bombing of the four-year-old war.”

http://www.rferl.org/featuresarticle/2007/04/03c0691d-22b9-4b7c-a438-fce60a8d62d8.html

iCasualties: “U.S fatalities in January 2007 – 83 total, U.S fatalities in February 2007 –80 total, U.S fatalities in March 2007 – 81 total, in April 2007 1st week U.S fatalities – 20 total”

If you want to PM we can talk further.

All the best in your endeavors,
