Shooting with the 7D & HVX???

The reason being is I have easy access to a HVX, but certain shots I wanted with the "shallow DOF", I shot with the 7D.

I've heard people mixing 7D & T2i footage with their HVX200 or 300 footage before, but can you notice any real difference?

I believe I have to transcode the 7D/T2i footage to ProRes, then bring it into FCP. So, what do I do next?

Just bring it onto the timeline with the DVCPRO footage and start cutting OR do I have to transcode it again to DVCPRO 24p???

Also, if anyone has success in this, do you have any links to some samples?

Thanks

I had a pretty bad experience with this. HVX had a red rock 35mm adapter, and im not sure if the adapter was not focused right or what, but the 7D footage is so much clearer, and sharper, and colors so much better, and for whatever reason the HVX footage was so much noiser that i had to toss a lot of hte HVX.

It was very sad because HVX was being used as the main camera, and 7D was mostly close ups etc...

The few shots we shot without he 35mm adapter, actually looked pretty decent on the HVX, but still not as good as the 7D.

Im sure the HVX was an amazing camera like 4 years ago, but its dated now, and unless you need something longer than a 12 min clip, id almost recommend not using it at all.

I also noted that a lot of times the HVX footage was way to orange looking but that may have been just some wrong settings. (i was mostly operating 7D)

Just be sure and shoot some test footage on both first and mix them. I really pulled to shoot the whole thing on my 7D but in the end i wasnt successful in convincing the director/producer, now i wish i had been.

My comments refer to image quality.

I've compared my 4 year's worth of shoots with the HVX to the 7D and 2ti (i year), and I've always preferred the latter's.

I've sold the HVX and not regretted it since.

i use them both all the time. They inter-cut just fine. I use the HPX for wide infinity focus shots or brick building exteriors.

Same here. HVX and 7d. You have to know when and when not. A recent scene file for HVX really matches my canon setup so we don't have to do much in post.

Auto Focus is another reason I keep the HVX for fast action shots where the canon just can't follow. I do alot of drama.
