Shooting with Letus and XHA1 in low light

Hi all,

I'm going to be shooting a feature this winter with a Canon XHA1 and Letus Extreme, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get proper exposure for night scenes. Of course the most important elements are sufficient light and fast lenses, but does anyone have any other suggestions. i.e. are there any custom presets on the XHA1 that work well with low light situations?

I did a couple of tests with the setup using a Nikon 50mm f2 lens, but a lot of the background was still completely black without any detail. I'd like to avoid using the gain switch on the camera as it makes the image look like crap.

Any suggestions or stories about shooting at night would be great, thanks!

The quality might go down, but have you tired turning up the gain? It will be grainy, but it brings up the sensitivity of the sensor fairly well.

no preset can replace proper lighting. Get some lights, even if they're cheap floodlights. It's a lot easier to shoot with too much light than it is too shoot with too little light. If you're shooting at night, you definitely need some decent lights, at least a few 500Watt lights minimum especially with an adapter.
