Shooting to miniDV and computer

Trying to remember how to do a miniDV shoot with my HVX200,
with Firewire to FCP on my Mac doing a Capture Now as a real-time backup...

My goal would be to have the QuickTime files ready to edit as soon as the shoot
is over, so that the DV tapes become the backup.

Does it work?

It should. Just plug in the firewire, hit 'record' on both and go for it. I've read that really long records can cause a problem, but if I can capture an hour long tape without an issue I don't see why doing it live would be any different.

I just did a little test. The important thing is to set Final Cut's
Log and Capture > Capture Settings > Device Control
to Non-Controllable Device.
