C200: Shooting raw and no C-Log2 in camera

Hello everyone,

Let’s say you are shooting raw and aiming to either import directly in resolve or exporting a C-Log2 Cine Gamut dpx master from canon raw development software. My DP will use C-Log2 and Cine gamut. How are we going to monitor on set the correct log and gamut footage? This very nice but crippled camera does not seem to have C-log2 monitoring, or cine gamut. So the camera can not show or output from sdi the correct dynamic range / color response that it is shooting in. What is this? We are shooting in C-Log2 and cinegamut, but we can only see C-log3 at 13stops and other gamuts on our monitors. How are we supposed to do this? Are these windows blown out? Now they are but when in C-log2 trust me they won’t? What?

How about a camera that shoots log but will only monitor in rec709?. I am having a hard time accepting such a thing. Going over product brochures and web info, the pr wording is so nice you’d think the camera shoots in Clog-2 and cinegamut in Raw workflow. They do say you can develop your footage in those settings. They never say you can shoot for Clog 2 and cinegamut and be able to monitor your footage properly.

Not being able to monitor your footage with coreect gamut, color range, and dynamic range is definitely a head scratcher.

I hope I am missing a menu item and totally wrong.

Your correct. They’ve developed a nice camera but crippled in many ways while also adding some compelling features.
It’s an interesting fun camera that’s frustrating at the same time.

Log is really just a storage format anyway and doesn't really offer any benefit for monitoring. Why would you want to see a particular kind of log on set if you're shooting raw?
