Shooting in progressive

24pA vs. Matrox

24pA vs. Matrox

I bought a DVX100B thinking that I was going to be able to edit in 24p with Adobe Premiere Pro CS2. The problem is, I'm also using the Matrox RT X100 card and software, which cannot handle true 24p editing. So, I settle for shooting in 24p and editing in 29.97, which still gives me a film look. I guess it's more like shooting in frame mode like when I had a Canon GL-1. lol

I think I can turn off the Matrox card, but not sure if Premiere would function properly then. Any ideas guys? I love the Matrox card, because of the added effects and the smooth slo-mo you get with it. My God, the slo-mo looks like it was shot over-cranked!

Thanks,
Phil

You CAN edit 24p natively in PP CS2. Try the 24p Sequence templates.

At worst, you'd have to re-install PP after removing the Matrox card and software.

I got rid of my RT.X100 a couple years ago and Premiere has never run better. Matrox does have a great slow-mo, I'll grant them that. But all the other things that didn't work weren't worth it to me.

I'd dump the card regardless of the 24p issue.

Jim,
I thought about dumping the card, I know of the issues you speak of, all too well too! lol I guess I can work around the problems. I like the added effects and slo-mo. I really love the color-correction white balance feature. Man what a simple tool! I'm spoiled now anyway with no rendering of transitions and color correcting.

I'm still thinking about dumping it. One day, who knows...

Phil
