Shooting in 4:3 and changing to squeeze

Hey everybody,
I've just started to shoot a project in 4:3 mode but i think i made a wrong decision. I want to continue the project in squeeze mode and i'm wondering if i could edit those different parts in the same project? i mean, is it possible to switch 4:3 to squeeze in a middle of a project and to fit those 4:3 footages to 16:9 in post production?
thanks a lot,
Noam.

All you need to do is crop the frame of the 4:3 footage to a 16:9 frame (letterbox), then enlarge the frame to fill out the full 16:9. Yeah, you lose a little resolution that way... but that's essentially what the camera is doing when it shoots squeeze.

This. You can do it in post by just importing all your footage, both 4:3 and 16:9, into a 16:9 timeline and then enlarging the 4:3 stuff to fit it. I actually had to do this recently; I made a compilation of two years worth of footage, a solid mixture of both aspect ratios. The enlarged 4:3 stuff came out better than I thought it would.

can you please explain how to do it in premiere pro cs4?

open a widescreen project, add your 4:3 footage and edit it, then select your footage on the timeline and under the editing dialog box click on the effects control tab then pull down the motion tab. You will then see a scale height and scale width boxes and below that and checked box for uniform scale. Uncheck the uniform scale and change the numbers on the scale height and width to 133 and it will fill your view window to 16:9

You may well notice a difference in resolution between the squeeze footage and the cropped/uprezzed 4:3 footage, though.
