Shooting HD format

I'm a newbie everyone, I have a question. You can only shoot HD format to P2 cards & external devices, right? The HVX200 doesn't shoot HD format to the Mini DV, right? I called Panasonic & a local dealer and they both said, yes I think it does shoot HD format to MiniDV tape. But then again I hear some of the pro's online say it doesn't? Who right or wrong? Thanks for your help, Papasean the newbie.

Thanks RE1000, yeah I haven't purchase the unit yet but I just want all information before I did, thanks again.

No problem. Try to get in as much research as possible, here and wherever else. I researched 1-2 months before buying it (I couldn't find a P2 card anyway) and when I got the camera, it was a very easy transition from SD. The HVX Bootcamp DVD's are extremely helpfull too!

Thanks, yeah I'm in between the HVX & XHA1, yeah those P2 cards are expensive and don't record much time on them...gosh! But yeah I have a day or two before I buy so I'll see what happens. :)

The 16Gb card, priced at $900 and had for a little less will record 42 minutes of 720/24pn.

And can be downloaded and reused and reinserted.

What record times are you looking for?

Thanks David S., yeah well I want to record in HD at least 45-60 minutes. I think the HVX200 only gives shorter times regarding HD recording on the P2 cards. When you say copy or transfer footage, you mean to the computer or hard drive then erase the P2 card and continue recording? Thanks.

I guess 720/24pn is good in HD? I'm a little new to all the formats so bear with me...lol.. But that will still be HD quailty at 42 minutes, right?

720/24pn is what most people are shooting.

That's all we shot.

A 16 and 8 Gb card gives you over an hour.

Transfer footage, erase and then reinsert.
