I'm filming a wedding for some friends of mine this weekend. My friends don't own a blu-ray player or anything, so I will need to give the footage to them on a regular SD-DVD.
Of course, the easy thing to do would be to flip the 160 into SD mode and be done with it, but I would kind of like to have a copy of it in HD for my own purposes, namely to be able to show to future clients. Also, I figured I could go ahead and send the couple one blu-ray copy, so they could have it in HD in the future when they get a blu-ray player, or have one on their laptop, etc.
My plan then was to film the wedding in HD and just export it in SD through compressor, when I am making copies for the couple. I wanted to put that out there on here though and see what people know about this type of workflow. Is there any reason I shouldn't do it this way? For instance, will I lose image quality, compared to if I had just filmed in SD in the first place? Also, would filming in 1080p30 create extra problems, since the final video (that the couple will see anyways) will be 480i?
I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts or wisdom you might have to share on this subject.
