Shooting entirely in 50fps; converting to 25fps in Cinema Tools.

Hello guys,

I'm going to be shooting a music video this weekend on the 7D, some of which I want at 25fps, some at 50fps.

What I'm looking for is consistency, and therefore I'm concerned about switching between 1080 and 720, for 25fps and 50fps, respectively. Do you think it's worth shooting entirely in 50fps then converting that through something such as Cinema Tools? A friend of mine did this and recommends it. Thought I'd get some different points of view.

Thanks.

Yep. You may as well shoot all at 50fps because you can pull it down to 25fps fairly easily anyway. Plus you may miss some gold just when you're not shooting overcranked.

Be aware that if you're shooting 50p with the intent to convert it to 25p, you still have to handle the camera like it's shooting 25p. Otherwise, you may end up with less-than-stellar results.

If you intend your project to be 25p overall, I strongly suggest shooting 25p unless you're specifically overcranking. Thorough pre-production and disciplined shooting will prevent missing any "gold" -- this is a controlled, planned shoot, so you should be planning the gold ahead of time. :)
