sorry to upload twice but iam sure the 1st post will only let members view. these should be in the public domain :) much better!

That is a sexy piece of kit. Not exactly a beautiful woman, but
probably not as cold either.

What do you think about the flexible gear?
Would it be suitable for lenses with a long focus
throw, say greater than 180 degrees. Is it wide and deep enough?

If you had two lenses with the same outside diameter
could you swap the flexible gear or is it better left dedicated
to a single lens?

Thanks for posting the photos with the GH1. Very sweet setup.

I'm trying to decide between this one and the D|Focus 3.

The Shoot is 3 times more expensive but it may well be worth it.

hahaa! very true brother!

i think the flexi gear is good, its a bit of a fiddle to start with but once i figured it out (after 2 mins) i kinda knew what it would behave like.

its pretty tuff plastic and once bolted it in place it felt fixed onto the lens well, ive got a 85mm jupiter-9 lens... the focus barrel is pretty tuff to turn so it will be a real test, this canon fd's got an easy rotate :o)

how do you mean long focus? how much it would be able to rotate? it probably rotates about 280 degrees before the red flexi gear fixing hits the ff gear cog.
i can fully focus this canon fd 50mm 1.4 on it..... not much more tho.

yeah i bought 3 extra flexi gears but iam gonna be using just 1 for a few lenses, you can see ive not trimmed it too short so i can use it on larger barrel lenses, beware the bit left sticking out could hit things depending on your setup.
so yeah easy swap the flexi gear on diff lenses, i rekon this could make the teeth wear a bit at the fixing area tho (under the red bit).

iam in the UK so i went for the shoot35 one to avoid robbery tax... i mean customs taxes, plus i have a hunch the guys at shoot35 are making the products from an engineering viewpoint, seems they like to get things right before they make sumthing... just on looks the dfocus looks like its made of plastic.... i believe its... Delrin™... and i rekon thats sum kind of plastic.

i spent alot on this damn thing but i think it will outlast alot of the other ones around.

hope this helps mate

I have been trying to order this thing from the USA but the bank system they use gets hung up on asking for the month of credit card issue? I tried entering this (after calling Visa) but it then also gets rejected. Tried using a different credit card - also rejected.

Be great if this outfit started a US distribution system...

heres a close up of the fixing, right hand side is fixed in with the little metal pin, and the adjustable side once through the red housing is kept in place by the screw and washer (the washer fits in the gear grooves) and then can be slowly tightened and it reduces the diameter of the flexi gear around the barrel.

hey rokkor, this was on there site for the past ages but only became avalible to buy yest! if you already knew that sorry :) why not send them an email and ask for advice about how you could make a purchase? i emailed them a few times and always got a super fast and helpfull email straight back, they really are a good company, well i trust them as ive had a super smooth transaction with them, you should enquire if they can do "cash on delivery" or sumthing like that? or paypal maybes.

I have been communicating with Wayne, but no other plans in the works just yet.

I am hoping to use one of my business credit cards before I start using home cards or paypal etc. Confession: sort of trying to keep this purchase off the wife's radar ("what is this $600 gizmo from the UK?") I am sure some of you understand...

hahaaaaaa iam unluckily fortunate in that department rokkor... blooming omega man me! :)

I did hear back from Wayne. The plan is to try again on a afresh day and if that does not work he will arrange a direct bank transfer. Pretty good communication I must say...

been using it today with all my prime lenses.
i was initially worried about the flexi gear slipping on my jupiter-9 lens as its a very stiff focus ring but i tried it out this morning and it focuses with ease :)
really happy!

waiting for a manfrotto micro ball head hot shoe mount to hold my zoom h2 then thats me all good.

il upload more pix when it gets here hopefuly in a few hours :o) coming via: parcelhorse (on a 2 day next day delivery) ;s

This was also my experience last summer when buying some odd bits and pieces from Shoot35 - despite the relative small sum of the purchase they answered several emails quickly with good information and suggestions while being very friendly. Stellar communication in other words. And the quality is truly top-notch.

Yeah, I guess my question about focus throw was if you do the full rotation of your Jupiter lens
from close focus to infinity is there any slippage in the gear as the lens extends or contracts.
The flexigear looks a bit narrow.

Just asking as I have some long focus throw "older" lenses (including some macro lenses)
I would like to accommodate, as well as some newer lenses that generally have a much shorter throw or total rotation. Of course the degrees of rotation may have nothing to do with how much
the lens extends or contracts while focusing and problem may just be hitting the clamp
if the rotation is more than 300 degrees. My Nikon Micro-Nikkor 105mm is around that.

So I suppose the real question is: how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a
tootsie pop? : )

Thanks for the very helpful post, mate, even though you may end up costing me a lot more
money.

Cheers.

hey maxdvz

yeah the flexi gear is narrow but when its engaged with the ff gear cog it cant slip anywhere.

all the lenses ive tested the focus ring always stays in the same position, iam not sure if some focus rings travel along the barrel when rotated, but if they do i would imagine it would be a problem with the narrow flexi gear.

whats a tootsie? in scotland its your taes! (toes)

yeah if the focus barrel rotates more than about 280 degrees it might hit the clamp, isnt that a possible problem with all lens gears? i know INDIsystems and others do the snap on 360 degree gears.

i still not sure if ive managed to answer what you asked iam pretty crap and reading and writing :)

Truly understand this!!!! same here, same here...

Seems to me that the gearing is a basic cut down car fan belt.it would be possible to buy one with the same pitch, and cut it to meet your own lens diameter.

rioridh hahahaaaaaa that made me laugh, you were kidding right?!

i highly doubt a car fan belt would be suitable for a lens gear.

id love to see pictures if you give it a try, i'm sure we all would

Really nice rig. After some months, how do you like your rig? I'm thinking abour buying the package from shoot35 (MB, FF,mount),
What kind of components you bought to make it offset.
Thanks
