Shoot in AVCHD or MP4 on X1000?

I'm currently shooting AVCHD PS Mode but I been thinking, should I start shooting in MP4 for when I decide to shoot at a higher data rate or finally 4K? IIRC MP4 requires twice the data to match AVCHD PS?

Camera is the HC-X1000.

EDIT: AVCHD highest is 28Mbps, while the lowest for MP4 is 50Mbps. One may have a higher data rate but doesn't PS use a higher profile? End game is higher quality format.

AVCHD is a form of .MP4. Specifically, it's a form of .MP4/H.264. Given that Panasonic helped develop AVCHD, I would think that the higher bitrate MP4 would be of higher quality. Otherwise, what's the point in including it?

If it's possible, dual record something to both codecs and see for yourself if the higher bitrate is worth it. I think that for a lot of applications, AVCHD is still plenty good, and plan on using it for several projects ongoing for the foreseeable future with my DVX200 (that said, I have a few others where I plan on switching over to the 50mbps option).
 
Well i have this cam and have only ever recorded in 4K mostly 100Mbs 25p but some 150Mbps 4K 50P,even if your final project is rendered at 1920x1080P i would recommend recording 4k as the original files can be saved for the future and why buy a 4K cam and use it as an HD one.The 4K on this model is not the sharpest and cant match my Pana FZ1000 but in most respects its a nice camcorder to use.
 
I've read that the X1000 is still sharper overall than the AC90? The only reason I'm shooting 1080p right now is storage space, we have yet to finalize our storage system.

No it's not possible to shoot dual codecs. I just found out that .mp4 50Mbps uses the same profile as AVCHD PS which is High@4.2. I thought .mp4 had a limit of Baseline?
 
Personaly i Put all my unedited footage on external drives and edited on other external drives,drives like the Seagate Expansion 2TB 3.0 Desktop,i also make backup copies,i think the cost is worth it.

Just because of storage capacity and speed of our setup right now.

System is more than capable to handle 4K footage.
