AC160 Shoot at 1440 x 1080?

Can anyone tell me if shooting in HE mode on the AC160 at 1440 x 1080 would make it easier on an NLE (Sony Vegas 8c) in comparison to PH mode at 1080i? I ask because I don't always need the best qualiy that the camera can put out and also because my second camera is a Sony Z1 that shoots 1440i and at present, my system is truggling a bit. The end product is a DVD.

Hi Chris

Check the manual specs..the camera can only shoot in AVCHD ..HE mode is still AVCHD and also still 1920x1080 with square pixels...HDV is 1440x1080 with a PAR of 1.333 : 1 and definately not available (The older Sony and Canon cameras that shot to tape used to shoot HDV) HE mode is very low in bitrate ..only 6mbps!!! Definately not advisable for stuff like weddings!!! The absolute minimum for decent footage is HA mode ..17 mbps!!! Otherwise you could shoot in DV mode??? then it's already SD but then you have a problem mixing in the HDV footage.

HE mode is a little easier on the NLE, but the bitrate is very low… ok for some things, but not others. I'd suggest that 720p30 might be a better way to go… even easier on the NLE, and much better quality!
