Ok, I assume most of you are not that titillated by seeing Shia Lebeouf naked. However, I was wondering what your perception was of this youtube video with a naked Shia Lebeouf:

Like it, hate it, think it's mediocre? Deep and meaningful or shallow baloney to show off naked bits posed as "art"?

What "subject matter" are you referring to?

There are no lyrics to the song, it's purely instrumental, and the original description of the video doesn't say what you're supposed to take away from it, although there's plenty of speculation in the comments, including staying in a bad relationship and drug abuse.
 
Like most "art" projects shia gets involved in, this came off to me as trying too hard to be important. I do think Shia is a good actor, but this did nothing for me.

I agree with Gary.......not interested. Didn't and won't check out your video. I have no interest in seeing another guy or a girl naked on this site just for the sake of "discussing it". If I wanted to see that, I'd go over to some porn site.

And is this really what you want to discuss? A naked "famous" actor? Really?!?

I"m more interested quite frankly in your assessment of the music video, something along the lines of what jghenderson posted which includes his opinion.

I was wondering whether people had the same perception of the video I did, or they had another take on it. I think I clearly stated that in the original post. I'm thinking some people on this forum have made or will make a music video at some point, so it seems quite relevant to me to discuss it.

It's clearly marked. It does say "naked". It's not pornography. We can discuss what porn is, but seriously? It's on youtube. I don't think nudity = porn. If you think it's porn please report this post and ask the moderators to take it down because it violates the terms of using this forum.

Basically, I agree. I just found it kind of pretentious and not really entertaining. Like being symbolic for the sake of being symbolic, not just because it ads something to the video.

It's interesting to me when media like this is polarizing. Look at the comments on the video. They're all pretty much, what is this crap, or OMG! this is the best "art" I've ever seen and not a lot in between.

I tend to think the "OMG! this is the most awesome art I've ever seen!" comments are mostly 15 year old girls, but I could be wrong.

Don't forgot the "Emperor's Clothes" effect. For some people, you present anything to them as art, and they'll gush over it, lest someone else think that they're a tasteless cretin.

Well there's also a lot of relationship scenes, crying, hugging, fighting, not for any apparent reason but it's there, and that sort of thing does tend to appeal to a younger female audience.

Kind of like the Eminem video. That one makes more sense and has less butterflies, but still not my cup of tea.

 
This is an interesting question.

After struggling with a response for 15 minutes, I think this comparison will sum up my thoughts.

Music with emotion and story. A video which matches and conveys that.

I know it's modern dance but I didn't like the OPs vid the way it was presented because it lacked these qualities imo.

back to the video and I will try to put thought into my words.

What I find great about this is the human body is shown without putting it on a pedestal. Without making it look sexy or erotic or violent or that its nudity obvious. I love and miss that about Europe but then again there's plenty of things I don't miss about Europe and enjoy now that I'm here in America.

Another interesting thing about this video is exposes a double standard with youtube. Notice how there is not flagging, warnings
or censorship? I guess they are just happy to rake in the hits right? Any other video showing a penis or breast would get flagged.

at the same time, it's nicely done and you know what, if Shia wants to go full frontal then all power to him.

anybody seen the X film stallone did in the early 70's? far more embarassing.

I"m not going to dig it up from youtube, but they do have a clearly stated double standard in their TOS agreement or whatever it is. It's not just an oversight, they clearly state nudity IS allowed for Hollywood productions, and NOT allowed for regular users.

I imagine this falls into the "Hollywood production" category since a major movie star is in the video.

Basically you or I are not trusted to put nudity in videos, because it might overlap into porn and they can't spend time looking at all the videos to decide.

It's assumed that anything Hollywood is probably rated, and while it may contain nudity it doesn't contain porn, which is a pretty safe bet most of the time.

I mostly agree, except for the color grading. I don't really like the skin tones, but that's just subjective. I would have preferred something a bit warmer, but probably that didn't go with the feel the director was going for.

pretentious, hypersexualized crap paraded as "open-mindedness" and "art". I'm a big fan of Sigur Ros and they lost some "cred" in my view after this video

Wow, what a good song. The story in the video is interesting but I'm not understanding the stairs at the end, are they trying to say that she's on her way to hitting rock bottom? Some commenters said the video is about loneliness but I don't think so, maybe if you were a monkey in Harry Harlow experiment you'd fall to that level of depression from loneliness. I think the video is more about alcoholism
