Re: Shakey DVD Footage from AVID

Thanks for all your help, I'll try those frame rates and see what I get. I've troubleshot this all weekend long. Still no luck. I may have to update my version of Avid...

Re: Shakey DVD Footage from AVID

I just struggled with the same problem. [Firewire external hard drive data to USB2 Iomega DVD Burner.) I tried exporting from Avid Express Pro (v4.6 PC) using _many_ different settings: Quicktime Reference; Quicktime Movie, MPEG4, etc. Alway trying to set the Best Quality. MPEG4 gave me nothing. Only feasible export was Quicktime Movie, but the DVD-run footage (and the direct run .mov) looked like crap -- very artifacty and jerky. [Likewise, I have student version sans Sorenson.] Was importing into Sonic MyDVD. The DVD software will convert anything incoming to MPEG2. (Also claims to accept and not recompress MPEG4.) Surprised that Avid will not export as MPEG2. (Why, oh why!!!) I suspected that the multiple compressions were causing the problem. I too had to crash record (digital cut) to tape, and then capture the miniDV tape through MyDVD. Again, thinking that only 1 compression is best -- that from DV tape to MPEG2 (plus the DVD transcoding that occurs anyway). The quality was considerably better.

Would a Sorenson Squeeze (at some $200 for educationally discounted software) really improve this process? Is the Sorenson-squeezed .mov that much better?

Sorry that I have no solution to offer. But, I commiserate. I too would like to have an all-computer solution to burning DVDs. Preferably those that do not require me to spend anymore money, which eludes me at this time.

There are SO many settings. It would be helpful for someone to just offer suggested settings that work rather than us recount all the many things that we tried, and retroubleshoot.

Thank you!

avid timeline export to file -----

hi all, i'v read this thread and still didn't figure out the right way to do things....:)
i'v used avid for the past 2 years and the best way i'v manged to export a seq' to a video file is take quick time ref' and put it onto after effects and render it out from there.
how can it be ? is it not possible to export normally out of avid without fields problems and ect.?
i'm working on a 25fps project on avid pro hd 5.1.5 and tried every export settings there is and still nothing, every quick movment on the video is smudged and yo can see the feilds, even in a single field mode....
help!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh, and by the way i think that the most fair results you can get is to export to quicktime movie (not avi or compressed like mpg-4,mpg2) with a single field not interlaced or something like that and use the avid dv codec . the dv stream works ok too but all in all it's not what you expect from a software like avid...
