Shake price drop.

The store won't be able to give you the education discount for software. You can only get discounted software through the education online store. Hope you didn't already go out and try to buy it!

Hmmm...strange, they give the discount on Hardware, I guess since the software is a diff license, they don't sell it in the store.

The college I work for has just purchased after effects 7 for our g5 editing computer. I was just about to order after effects training dvd's but now it looks like I will be ordering shake dvd's for my freelance work. For 4k you can get into the video editing game and compete now.$1800 for final cut studio and Shake 4 is simply amazing. A little over half the price of what shake use to cost. I never could consider shake seriously for freelance work cause of the price now I can't consider after effects because of the price haha. I most say I am proud to be a mac user today. In a month or so I can buy shake versus saving up for six months or so.
Yes after effects is worth $999 but if you already have motion2 (which comes with final cut) you buy shake and you have motion graphics and compositing covered. I honestly don't know what this combination can't do. Oh yeah Motion 2 is way under rated. Peace

Yeah, exactly.

Motion is actually pretty good, from what I've bothered with. I'm sure once I've gotten a lot more time with it, I'll find plenty more uses for it.

I'm glad to be using both PC and Mac, though. I'll be getting my MacBook soon and porting Motion and Shake over to it. Fun stuff.

I've never found motion to be a serious competition to AE for mograph work. The keyframe interface is not that great, and there are some other things it's missing as well. Motion is fun for a quick work-up or particle effect, but beyond that, AE offers me much more control, IMO.

I have After Effects 7, but I've yet to actually USE the damned thing. I ended up getting this job and I'm on a Mac. We upgrade Final Cut every release, and so Motion is just ... here. And my PC is in Orange County. FROWN.

I can say that I find it hard to create your own particles in Motion. Just replacing this and that seems a bit... "uhhh...hmmm" to me. I want to take a stab at After Effects 7 when I get my MacBook, since the version I bought is PC.

How about a little exercise what can you buy for the 3k shake would have cost?
Final cut pro studio($1299) Shake 4($499) dual 2ghz g5 from ebay($1200)
or
Brand new Pair of Knockers for the Lady:love4: I know hard decision.

Motion is the fastest motion graphics program ever. I used after effects 5.5 and 6 but then quit because it was to slow and moved to the mac platform. If you have a small render farm to dedicate to after effects then it is a monster. The honest fact is. 70% of what most people do in after effects you can do much faster in motion. This is something I made 2 or so years ago in after effects. Quality is crap but you get it. http://www.namodigital.com/nik/video/effectsvideo.mov. I'm sure the server will slow down at somepoint. This took forever. RAM PREVIEW NOOOO. This would have been very easy in motion.
check this out about Motion if you haven't seen this yet.

What's a good place to upload videos to other than you tube?

I haven't, as much as I like Motion, seen anyone really use it for something Visual FX oriented. For titles, I can see. I mean, you could literally do the craziest stuff with titles in minutes using Motion.

Do you know of anyone using it for effects like glowing body parts and such? Even something so small seems hard to pull off in Motion, but after effects ... well it's been done countless amounts of times.

Yeah motion is mostly for motion graphics. Thats why the motion and shake team is such a great combo. So 70% of the time you can use motion and 30% of the time you can use the $499 priced shake. I think a great two man team could do great things with 2 g5's and final cut studio on one and shake on the other.
When someone has a project that isn't really paying you that much but they want it to look great use Motion.

They should.

You're saying that Linux is the way to go? I've heard this before, could you expound on this comment?

It's not easy, but there is so much power under the hood it's crazy. I've been teaching myself for the past few months and you can see some of my early work in the last half of this quick reel I put together.

All the vfx stuff at the end is done in Shake. Please right click and download to save my bandwidth, thanks!

hey, i liked your reel, especially the fieball effect, would you be able to elaborate a bit on how you got that? it looks like you juled the girl then filmed something burning and composited them together?
thanks!

Looks that way to me. And had something to hold her hand still so that there wouldn't be much motion tracking involved. Locked Down Shot.

I would probably use the same technique. Use real particles (flames, eletricity, smoke, etc...) Then composite them over the living subject. Takes a lot of pre-planning to make it look convincing.

Go for the knockers. :0

Wasn't Shake derived from some program that was $30k some years back? If so, that's quite a bit of progress.

Shake has always been Shake and was 10 grand originally... Apple bought the
company, Nothing Real, that created it.

The did have a 'highend' solution right before apple bought em called
Tremor that was their planned Flint/Flame/Inferno and Illusion competitor. Tremor
was more expensive and in the Illusion price range.

BTW.. If I'm reading correctly, some folks with Final Cut Studio or Logic can get Shake for $49 as a
crossgrade.

Don't you just think that the drop price means that Shake will be a part of the next Final cut studio? That makes a lot of sense to me,no?
