Shake price drop.

I would have never expected this! I wonder what happens to the Linux version of the program...

Anybody have any clue why they would drop the price so drastically?

Dont sell your combustion too quick...

Shake plug-ins are *expensive* and limited compared to what you've got
access to. You also lose paarticles and a lot of motion graphics tools that
are core to a lot of common effects.

I think the drop is a GREAT move. I hope it opens up the gateway to more
developers. The mac centric development is still its greatest weakness
however.

THERE IS A GOD!!! THE EDUCATION PRICE IS 250!!!

Do they sell education products at the Apple stores in NYC?

You're saying that Linux is the way to go? I've heard this before, could you expound on this comment?

Now, how long will it take me to learn shake?

It's not easy, but there is so much power under the hood it's crazy. I've been teaching myself for the past few months and you can see some of my early work in the last half of this quick reel I put together.

All the vfx stuff at the end is done in Shake. Please right click and download to save my bandwidth, thanks!

Mac is definately the way to go. The linux port really only exists to satisfy old
contracts in the hollywood community and its stable of unix developers. Lots
of em are ex-AVID guys from back in the Parallax/Illusion days.. Apple would
prefer to have it a MAC only product to drive hardware sales and get back
into the high-end vfx community in a more central capacity.

I'd personally prefer combustion above the others if it wasnt artificially
crippled to be discreet's 'low end' solution.

Hehe... its scary when you look at the decay of the 3d and especially
compositing software options in the past 15 years! Hopefully this price
hack will buy some longevity. We'll see if they can float development
at this price point however.

That fire and bullet effect are very cool. Thanks for sharing.

Shake is a great program. I am still picking around it's many features and abilities, and will be putting it to use with Cinema 4d very soon.

At 500.00, this is a steal.

I just placed an order for a product that I thought was out of my reach. FCP studio at 1400 is a strech for me just for software. But this is a sing on how apple is channging the post production world

The workflow, once accustomed to, is really nice.

In regards to Apple,

Has anyone tried out Motion? I have Motion 2 and I've been messing with it. It's really user friendly, and rather intuitive. I just don't know how you could really apply that to narrative filmmaking in the proper fashion. All of the effects seem a bit too... plastic ... if that sounds right.

Motion is great for graphics. Not so great for FX work. I read an article where they were using it to create FX placeholders on Fincher's next film and to me that sounds like a very good application for Motion as far as high-end effects.

EDIT: Maybe it wasn't an article, but a video that I saw. http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/profiles/?profiles/apple_fcs_profile-fincher_h640

does anyone know when the new intel mac desktops are hitting the market? Do you think they will be cheaper than the g5's now? B/c if they are I'm going to wait for them and then go for this awesome shake deal.

The 3k price of shake is the only reason I'm still using pc

The store won't be able to give you the education discount for software. You can only get discounted software through the education online store. Hope you didn't already go out and try to buy it!
