Speculation sure.

But it's fun

So are "sex, drugs, and rock and roll", but you don't see me runing off to, um, well, damn-it, nevermind...

"Imagination is more important than knowledge", true, but my girlfriend still won't wear an imaginary bikini...

I heard from the head of a 500 seat site that there are several bug fixes in the latest, post 4.0 linux version, mostly dealing with the abismal ram caching. I'll try to get some more info.
I think that if you were stupid enough to invest more than the price of a mac in the linux version you sort of deserve what you get. I know one site that spent $2000 times 200 interactive seats and $2000 times 300 render seats. They could have just bought 500 macs.
I think $500 is great news for mac users.
cheers,
Sam

Update: I ordered mine. Unlimited render nodes for mac users is the bomb! Keylight alone makes it worth $499.

Here's a fact. When we were working on Superman Returns, half the team wanted to use Fusion and only a few including me were on Shake. By the end of production every single person had switched over to Shake. Fusion was way too buggy and the paint component really stinks. Shake is a wicked product.

I was going to place an order for this tonight but I can't seem to find the edu version anymore. It was $250 right? And it was online? Where the feck did it go?

I ordered the educational version, but you're right... it looks like they removed it from the store. I just checked, and it appears to be gone. Of course, there was never an educational discount on Shake before, so maybe the fact that it was there in the first place was a mistake.

Dang it. At least I know I'm not going crazy. I'll wait it out for a day or two...

Just bought a copy along with the Gnomon 6 DVD set.
Right on, Saddler. You'll dig them. If you don't have two computer monitors already, pick up a second one. It makes the viewing of the DVDs, and learning of their content, that much easier while having Shake on one, while the DVDs run on the other. (Keep in mind that the Gnomon Shake discs are DVD-ROMs and NOT standard DVD Video discs.)

It makes more sense than is apparent at first. Big facilities have a huge investment in their existing pipe, and if that pipe is linux based, as most are, the expense to introduce hundreds of macs into the equation to save on software license costs is most likely too prohibitive.

Just paid $250.00 for mine, ed. version. Called to order. For those of you wanting lessons on how to use and you live near an Apple store, Apple offers a program called Apple Pro Care whare they teach you one on one how to use ANY program on a Mac once a week, 2 hours at a time, 52 weeks a year for only $100.00 a year. That beats any damn book or dvd hands down. Just thought I'd let you know!

Amazon has a 1-2 week wake on the Shake 4 Apple Training Books! Ha, people must be ordering them like mad now that Shake has been so reduced in price!

I purchased my copies of the Shake books directly from Peachpit.com. If you register as a member and order 3 books by Friday 6/30, you can save up to 50%, plus get free FedEx ground shipping. I bought the APTS: Shake 2nd Ed, Shake Quick Reference Guide, and Advanced Editing in FCS and paid $27.50, $12.50 and $25 respectively. Definitely cheaper than Amazon.com.

I ordered them yesterday and just got my shipment confirmation this morning.
