SGPro Rev2, HDV 24F

I'll be testing the A1 with the adapter tonight, but last night I used the H1. Quality should be similar, but I thought some of you might find this interesting.

Shot flat, CC'd in FCP for a bit of a saturated, contrasty "bleach bypass" kinda look.

Edit: Had to take the link down to conserve bandwidth. Go to the XL-H1 section to see a grab.

Yeah, she likes to make monster faces all the time.

I used a 85 mm Nikkor 1:1.4D, shot mostly wide open. (f1.4 and 2.0) Very shallow DOF and tough to manage with squirrelly kids as subjects. :)

Thanks for sharing, looks good.

I was looking at the pics of the rig, is there a reason you put the tripod clamp at the back? Normally it goes in the middle to balance the weight on the tripod.

Probably because I'm a bit of a 'tard. I really didn't read the tutorial carefully, just tried to make the damn thing fit the length of the H1 with rods and run out and shoot something before it got dark. :) I'll set things up properly next time.

Wayne, you're adapter is really fantastic.

Cant wait to see some of your work Elton.

Thanks Timur. I'll probably be using the SGPro a bit with our SpyFest entry--I'd use it more if I had more experience and time with it, but I actually think I can intercut (after CC) adapter footage with my XL-H1 lenses.

btw, all the quick focus pulling was simply to get a feel for the DOF and to see the houses and cars in the background and how well the adapter/Nikon combo would render distant detail. I think it's surprisingly good in HD. I never expected it to be as sharp as a stock HD video lens, but thankfully it's reasonably sharp.

Unfortunately, the Brevis I've borrowed for a few days had a Canon mount and I don't think the lenses I had were as good as the Nikon with the SGPro. I want to compare the Brevis to the SGPro with the same lens and see if the spinning glass is indeed a better method of oscillation than the vibrating glass on the Brevis.

Came up nicely for a run out and shoot before darkness.

Off topic: Saw you checked out the Canon tent at NAB. They have anything interesting to say?

Nah, they don't hardly hint at anything. I pressed a couple of guys asking if the successors to the current prosumer models would all employ the CMOS chip (or a relative) that's used in the HV20, but no hints, however, I think it's fairly obvious that the entire line will be using Canon CMOS within a year or two at most. It was quite telling to see how they were pimping the HV20 right along with the A1, G1 and H1.

Hello Elton,
Looks good. How far away were you from your little girl.

Shoot, I wanna say that at the beginning they were about 15 feet from the camera, and then at the end she was pretty close, probably 5 feet, but don't quote me!
