SGpro Day 7 & 8

again, great footage. it seems like you are developing a sense of color style (or maybe its just me but i like it).
how did you do those white flashes? i have tried a few things but none have worked and yours are just the right length and i guess brightness.
thanks, and keep it up

EDIT: also, did you shoot in 24p the whole time or 60i at 120 shutter for the slowmotion stuff?

dof on the sgpro is beautiful. I've never had any 35mm adaptors, but would you recommend me getting the SGpro adaptor?

Any advice would be great!

banksie - thanks, i have a lot of fun messing with the colors on here. the white flashes were just transitions in sony vegas, i am pretty sure they were just called "flashes". everything was shot in 24p, i used twixtor in after effects to slow it down to 65%. I didn't plan on making anything slow, so I didn't bother shooting anything other than 24 at the time.

mackfilm - the depth is very nice. i never used the letus or brevis, but i used the m2 for a night, but i can't remember what it was like too well. i went with the sgpro based on the footage i saw online. i favored it over the footage of the m2. never saw much breavis footage and i really like how the letus adapters look, but when i looked at their new one it was like 1500 bucks (it does have the flip though). sg pro ran me under 1100 with rails and a nikon mount which is a great deal for such a cool tool. i recommend it 100%

Steven,

Very nice footage. I was wondering how cumbersome the SgPro is on your camera as you walk around with it hand held? I'd like to see a photo of what the DVX/SgPro rig looks like that you were carrying around.

Cheers,

John

flimflamfilms - the set up is a little hard to carry around just by itself (dvx, sgpro and rails) but it can be done easily with some practice. i won cavision hand grips and shoulder mount off ebay for 115USD which is almost half what they cost new.

this photo shows the grips better than the shoulder mount, but the shoulder mount is just a U shape that fits on your shoulder.

its not bad to carry around while moving to be honest, i get more tired walking around between shooting cause i keep having to change positions of how i hold the system

Nice footage and nice photo's!! great job as usual Steven!!!

by the way, did you shoot in letter box or squeez?
the 16:9 widescreen look you have looks diffrent from mine so I just wanted to know.
thanks

ryvac - i actually shot it in 4x3 and i just made makeshift bars in photoshop cause i couldn't find any letterbox effects in Vegas. i just guesstimated the size and spacing of them

I see...so your using Vegas to edite ? I didn't know that..
do you do all your color correction on Vegas or is it the Magic Bullet?
it looks really nice! colors become rich!!

Damn that was nice stuff Steven.
Really well put together and I must say your a lucky man to have such a lovely girlfriend!

ryvac - most of the colors that look coldish are from mb. whenever i try to cool footage down in vegas without mb it always looks washed out for some reason so i just don't bother. the warmer colors or desaturated white-like colors i made in vegas with the saturation, 3 way and contrast filters. i really just use the same stuff over and over cause i have presets saved and i dont feel like making new stuff up because i am too excited to put the final footage online and share

shaun - thanks it came out nice. it took a little time before i got the go ahead to point the camera and hit record at her. she also sat here while i edited and told me which clips she didn't like herself in so i wouldnt add them to the timeline

Steven,

Thanks for the info and photo. Keep up the great work. By the way, I really dug your commercial for 'Wilson'. Very clever!

Cheers,

John

Nice footage man. You have a good eye for framing the shot and finding something interesting to shoot.

Keep up the good work.

mack - www.shoot35.com it lets you add the rail system and your pick of mount. mounts vary in price, i went with the cheapest.

thanks stinkpot. i am getting more used to having to visualize what the actual shot looks like since it is upside down and backwards through my viewfinder.
