thanks rslv. what lenses would create circular highlights? I am using a cheapo nikon 50mm. my buddy found me an adapter that goes from a nikon mount to a canon fd mount so i will probably be buying some canon lenses soon. do the lenses you prefer cost more than ones that are not like them?

I'm not really familiar with Nikon mounts.

If I remember the flange distances correctly a CanonFD-to-Nikon-adapter won't be possible with out the use of optical compensation. The lens is these adapters will degrade image quality considerably.
Are you sure it wasn't a Nikon-to-CanonFD-adapter he found? Would be useless to you.

Basically look for a lens with more/rounder apertureblades. I bet you can find a nice, used 50/1.4 on E-bay for $100-200. I'm sure you can find more info in the 35mm adapter forum or on a dedicated nikon/photography forum.
