SGpro Day 5!

Yes, it is now Day 5 (technically its only been 3 days since I started using the adapter but I like to round up). I shot some Obama supporters and a few other random things that I could find. A bunch of stuff is really soft, I think my eye wasn't lined up good enough with my viewfinder to tell how sharp it is, but I still think it looks pretty cool. Played with some mb no85 too, I don't like what it does to the reds, i didn't have time to tweak it though.

Also met a guy with a A1/LEX at the Clinton supporter's area. It is an impressive combo.

i almost want you to stop posting this stuff...it just looks too good. i am scrappin money just to get a dvx and i already want a 35mm converter. i really want to see this used on a planned project and everything. oh, how do you achieve the 16x9 (letterbox, squeeze, something else)? thanks man and keep it comin

Thanks, I went a few weeks without eating or spending money on things I didn't need and I borrowed some more and went for it. I have not been happier with something that has left me in more debt then I already am. I actually shot it in 4x3 just because everyone does, and also says you will get better quality. I shot one clip in squeeze and thew it into a little movie I already had going. I forgot to turn the adapter on for the shot also, so I had some static grain from the ground glass I guess sitting on the picture. I could not see anything other than the grain that looked negative about the shot, so I don't actually know how much better you are with shooting 4x3 compared to Squeeze.

Where in Jersey are you from?

I don't know. Such shallow depth of field is rather inappropriate for this subject. I can tell you had trouble keeping the moving people in focus and it was distracting. Remember that just because you have that huge aperture, you probably shouldn't use it unless it is a staged shot. But I know you just got the adapter so have fun with it!

but still, I like the softness of the image. it looks like it's creating a mood!!
it's good to see lots of SG footage now, since there aren't a lot on youtube compared to the M2!!!! so thanks Steven.

also, can you tell me how much you zoom in to your SG w/ the DVX?
I heard that the SG gives you a lot more view then the M2 so just wanted to know how much. (for the M2, I have to zoom in at 80 when I'm shooting NORM)

Yeah, it was hard to focus for this, I had to use my eye piece cause there was a bad glare, and also it was not directly infront of my eye cause i have my shoulder support set up weird for some reason. I bought the SGpro cause I liked all the footage I saw from it. I saw a lot of M2 stuff too, even used one but I favored what little I saw from the SGpro. I think I have been doing 70-73, sometimes its different, not sure why. Sometimes I like to zoom out all the way so i can see the inside of the adapter, it looks cool. I should make a video of all zoomed out footage :)

Good, if you used the M2 before how do you like the SG better??
because I've been thinking of changing to the SG for a while....

so I'm doing some research

like
you know how the edges get darker as you zoom out? (on the M2)
I wanted to know if the SG is like that too.
or does it have a square window you just zoom in?

Super nice, in some shots it was soft and I kinda liked that more. No 85 is sweet but I think you had a few different ones in there as well?

One more thing, I reckon its crazy how Americans are so into their politics, people out in the streets with placards just going for it! Passionate I say, me and like most other Aussies couldn't really give a squat about taking it to that level, we decide on our new elect and just vote. Your system is so way different to ours anyway.

Ryvac - I just base my liking on a combination of everything ive seen from the SGpro, the price and just the look it gives off. I didn't use the M2 enough to be able to know what its capable of. I think i can zoom out to maybe like upper sixties before I can see the actual black square of the adapter. The edges are just dark till then.

Shaun - thanks. and i dont even bother voting. i think a lot of people just want someone else in office who is different than the previous president

Hands down, some of the best footage I have seen.

What kind of color grading did you do for the shot where the old man is about to cross the street?

Thanks,

manymoosh

Wow that was some really good looking footage. Some of it was indeed a bit soft for my taste but I take it your still in the experimentation phase of things. I would be curious to know what lens you shot it with?

manymoosh - it was just some magic bullet preset i messed with a little
fabianc - yeah its too soft for me too. it was a nikon nikkor 50mm 1.8f from b&h
