SGblade

Yea, but the color rendition dynamic range and grain will look like Red One's or better, so all you are missing is the additional DOF.

Except we don't really know this. There's no test, no announcement, or anything from RED that would indicate this is the case. Might be true, but it's all just speculation until people actually get their hands on the camera and test it out.

the sgpro has nice bokeh, for a 35mm adapter, but man, I would leave that off the scarlet and just use the zoom/aperture/nd method to get xtreme shallow DOF with a rendition that'll blow away any and all adapters. I think after the scarlet comes out, 35mm adapters will be mostly relagated to the low budget consumer demographic e.g. Hv20 crowd.

Man, how can you say that.
The "real" 35mm adaptors were designed about 15 years ago for 2/3 chip camcorders and are still distributed.
That zoom in techhnique is fixed camera use only, in my mind at least. I can not see 300mm on a tracking shot to get background separation. Steadycam shots look much better with real 20mm @ T2 too.

The Scarlet will be the ultimate adaptor cam given it will be light sensitive and outputting high dynamic range raw. I'm sure there just are at least two clans of believers about that matter.

Cheers,
T

This is a thread about the Blade. Please take discussion of scarlet somewhere else . It just confuses conversation.

Just like with Blade all we know are claims, and to be more specific that they will do what the other model did only a little better. This whole thread is about speculation on the info released... And BTW all of that was what the Red team and Jannard said so far on the forums.

International Man of Mystery. Oooohh....

All I know is the Blade will probably rock pic wise. Let's hope the build issues are at the point you can rely on it for an entire feature. Every low cost adaptor out there right now gives me the heebie jeebies (technical term) when I think of using it for a feature. They've all failed me one or several times on issues from dust, motor failure, spinner failure, power issues, back focus, you name it. This is the area where build and customer service really come into play.

Timur, you know what I speak of.

Regarding the Scarlet Fan Boys - 2/3" chip wide open (in case 2.8) for the Scarlet is about the equivalent DOF as a cine 35 lens stopped up to an 11.0 (look it up at Panavision Australia tables). In a few words - that sucks. I really hate 2/3" for drama for that reason. I shot a feature last year on digi primes / Varicam and in hind sight I with I'd stuck with a PS plus Zeiss Primes. Digis at 1.6 are close to a cine lens at 5.6. An adaptor would've been cheaper and looks way better (resolution be damned).

In short, adaptors will be around as long as the nearest 35mm imager camera is 35 g plus. Once it gets to the 15g range (complete) then the 35 adaptor becomes a paperweight.

On the otherhand, you may see some cool developments on the 35mm still side (ie. Casio SLR right now shoots 60fps raw at 6.0 megapix for 900.00 bucks - 10 seconds only).

Hey, anyone thinking about using a Blade with a Scarlet?
If so, are you going to hope that the new grainless GG holds up and doesn't lose too much detail? That's what I am hoping for since Scarlet will look like film without the need for the SGpro's original GG.

Scarlet look like film? Even Red doesn't look like film. Damn I miss those simple days of just a light meter and an f stop. Did I mention film to tape xfer and lots of money? Anyway, films is being replaced, but more out of budgetary concerns than aesthetics. I even got good word (can't mention names) that Law and Order jumped the film ship and extensively tested RED. It failed (gunshots, sirens and the mighty Panavision). They're now shooting on Genesis.

Anyway, where was I. Blade has a better chance of looking like film that Scarlet Ohara.

that 24 I have is all over the place... the 55, 85, 135, and 200 are very decent at tapemeasure focus. but the barrel markings are so close together who knows really... but the 85 is actually acuurate to the inch. amazing...

I've caught word that the "smart" eos mounts might be capable of adapting to 35 adapters. There is already lds (lens data) software releasing for them. I anxiously await the day that an hvx with an adapter can relay dof in real time to the ac. AND the capabilities of meta data. I'll be replacing my Zeiss sets in a heartbeat. (well I'm moving to canon L series for the red anyway.)

Hi,

I am currently editing the footage, but its looking good. Had some long days at the office this week, I can only get to editing the footage late in the evening. It will be online soon :)

Can you point the Blade at that windmill I drove past on the way to pick my SGpro up? I always thought that it would photograph nicely....
