SGblade Beta Tester Reviews & Feedback’

[FONT=Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular]Converts MXF files to MXF files, P2 Cards to P2 Cards,

?? i'm having a hard time understanding this from raylight.

You drop in a P2 folder and it creates a new one with the desired changes

I remember now, you can render it flipped lossless. I never got that one right so I just edit flipped which is quite easy once you flip all your tracks of video.

FOOTY!

If you would wait for the slower delivery you should look at the Carrion... it is SICK, just as good as the big Pana if not better but without the charts built in. But much cheaper too!

Re: Carrion. Have you seen the roasting they get for lousy customer service. You think it's bad here, go to reduser. Why could it be better than the Pana? Did you test them side by side. Carrion has no waveform, it I/Outs stem from the top (which is just stupid) and its customer service/wait is stuff of legend. I guess some folks love it. I personally think that all the subrentals you entail while waiting more than makes up for the cheap price. At least it sounds like Blade will have an "honest" announcement/delivery time.

Anyway, as I usually use an on board when shooting with an adaptor/ I miss the simplicity of non-flipped adaptors. Also, with non-flipped you often can zoom out at least 20 percent wider which is real useful, considering the expense and limited options for wide angle. Now I'd have to budget in the time to transcode to flipped.

Back on track. Is anyone out there testing the non-flip blade? Can it zoom wider than the flipped? Wayne?

So I can use this in an FCP workflow. ie) make flip and pulldown changes, etc. and then import into FCP now natively flipped?

If so, I just may jump back into the non-flip Blade market. It'd be nice to get rid of all that step down hoo ha with flip optics and just get back to the basics.

Also, if I purchased the old non-flipping Mac Raylight is there a discount to upgrade?

Raylght for Mac does not flip (can't, since the Mac version uses the Apple codec), you have to use Raylight MXFX for Mac to flip in a pre-processing step.

If you have two raylight products, there is a discount, contact Sales.

Excellent shot, Smettli!

Tim, Smettli (Anders) is using the non flip Blade. Your zoom level is indeed wider (18mm non flip vs flip 22mm on the FX1 zoom ring).

I know, it makes no sense... especially when something happens and you miss the thread before it drops far down.

Stikies should always have an updated first post with a summary though... not a lot of work.

Hey guys, glad you like the shot :)

In the final version of the shot the clouds will roll over, but we have to move my stupid face from a couple of frames because I thought I saw something hitting the lens.
The conditions were sick yesterday, haven't seen anything like it before. Looked like snow had filled the gap between the mountains.

HAHAHA... awesome... one question, what's with the step thing you got going on? Are you trying to figure out how to play it back to show the whole thing in a short period of time but while showing some of that awesome detail you got?

If you can I'd stick to one shot but you don't want it to go too fast or take too long. But if you can get rid of those steps somehow...

Thanks Wayne.

I've been out of the SG camp for some time but that's a stat that's hard to ignore.
18 over 22 translates roughly 21 degrees to 25 degrees. Almost a 20 % gain in width. I do miss the near Vista Vision size target of my old SG, where a 24mm is truly a wide lens.

How does the widest useable zoom on the non-flip translate into image size? Is it close to still 35mm? Also, is there any noticeable gain in sensitivity and resolution with the non-flip. Last, does the non-flip have x/y adjustment?

Thanks for the heads up. Who's used this? Anyone?

OK....

So now that my Blade is up and running, FINALLY, and i have a Camera to Shoot with.... And My Rod system back.... i am using the blade on a Shot tommorw.

I will ship off this footage to wayne for scrutiny. Then i will shoot on Friday to give you guys something to look at....

Tim wanna check it out with me?

Cool, can't wait... more HVX stuff would be awesome Timur! But I really love seeing this puppy with the other cameras that I like like the A1, can't wait to see it on a 170 too! Great idea Wayne! Hope you are enjoying the postings as much as I am. I'd love to see some numbers too... are we going to get more specs soon? Anyone?

Wayne, do you know if anyone has if with an EX1 or 3?

And finally, can someone explain to me about the zooming with the non-flip? How much can I zoom in and out with the camera? And what does that do to an 18mm lens and to an 85mm? I'd love to know how much longer a small primes set would get and if we could get wider than 18mm... Is there a way to also know how big the GG capture areas are? I'd love to know that too!

Just to clarify, you will get the same FOV (GG area) with either flipped or non flipped, it's simply that you do not need as much 'zoom in' with the non flip to achieve the same FOV. This means less light loss from the camcorders own lens as well as less glass 'non-flipped'.

Regarding image size and GG area, we have designed the Blade and it's GG diameter to cater for full 36mm frame width in 16:9 aspect (36x20). This aspect has allowed us to shrink the GG diameter considerably and still allow 'vista vision' in 16:9 aspect. The non flip Blade does not have X/Y adjustment.

Lenny has an EX1 so tests will begin with this soon. I am hoping to send Lenny our new flip module (2 samples arrive today, YAY!!) so lets wait for that :)

You do not have as much room for zooming with the non flipped Blade, it also differs from one cam to the next. You will be able to zoom between vista vision and academy, but not much further. With the flip module, we are aiming for full zoom in.
