SGblade Beta Tester Reviews & Feedback’

PS that shot above was with a HVX200.

I dont own a 170 or 200a.

Canon FD 55mm F1.2 @ F2.8 with 650w worth of daylight florescent in a Spiderlight ( softbox)
about 8 feet to the left, skintone highlight was at 75-IRE in the P2 origional.

its very good in lowlight. but that shot was SOOOO grainy! i messed up somewhere.... i dont remeber my camera settings.

NO WAY... I knew it! I was afraid of not being right and looking like an arse so I didn't, but I just knew it was a 200... I figured you had a 170... my mistake. Sweet! I am editing a short shot on my HVX with an SGpro... so this is a perfect comparison for me, though we shot on Nikons.

It looks like you just had too little light, not your fault... a 650w can't fill in that room. But I thought it was a low small open window facing East late afternoon... nice quality of light, what bulbs?

I can't wait to see more! And if you feel like upload the .MXF for that one, I owuld love to see the raw footage... that is probably why I doubted if it had been a 200. :D

any sign of release date to public yet?

We should have online ordering up within 2 weeks, with a January shipping date.

Hi Wayne, I'm curious if the Blade has anything to help prevent it from spinning while it is on the camera. For example, the Letus has a hole in the bottom that screws it to the support clamp underneath. This keeps the whole setup solid and make it so the adapter can't go loose on the camera and have the edge shows up.

Yes, a Blade to rods bracket can be purchased.

Here's a trailer we shot for Mungopark theater in Jylland, Denmark. The show is called "Seest".
The trailer was directed, produced and edited by my friend Kristian and the soundguy for the theatershow edited some sound I believe.
We shot it in a couple of hours with the canon xh-a1 and sgblade with a pentax 50mm 1.8 mounted on.
Haha, I constantly found myself shouting out to the theater technician "Can you blast more light?" and had to go up to gain +3 at some points.

Right-click, save target as..:

PS: they speak danish.

no the exposure was correct. skin highlights should be around 1 and a half stops above neutral grey. caucasian skin properly exposes at 1 stop above neutral grey. aka 65-75 ire should be where your average skin tone is living. with a highlight at about 80 ire.

is there any substantial advantage to shooting flip vs non flip if you can already do it in camera (JVC HD200) ?

Is the flip version shorter in length?

Thanks for posting Smettli!

What's the ISO rating for the A1? And what lights did you have available?

The black walls don't help with light and therefor noise, but it certainly gave it a nice look. Maybe try crushing the blacks in the noisier shots using curves. I liked it a lot even though I don't speak a single word of Danish.

I'm wondering if it is possible to mount the non flip version without rails, since it looks so compact. What's the weight of the blade sans the flip?

remember, without the flip, you have a decently long tube connecting the camera to the blade. I strongly recommend any type of support.

Shooting non-flipped I find a complete drag as I find in post with FCP when you're working in multiclip, it's flipped in your bin and it chokes up on playback. If you've the time to transcode everything to natively flipped footage then you're fine. I just find for music videos I find multiclip indispensable but a drag with non-flipped footage.

Does anyone know if Raylight can ingest footage as flipped. That would make it alot better.

That being said. I find the actual shooting with a non-flipped a adaptor more pleasant because you lose less light, fewer optics, simpler less bulky rod set - up and less weight.

You will need a good monitor that flips or can be mounted upside down. I think there's a real nice Nebtek 70HDS for sale in Marketplace. Can't imagine who'd be selling it.

If you would wait for the slower delivery you should look at the Carrion... it is SICK, just as good as the big Pana if not better but without the charts built in. But much cheaper too!

Raylight never followed through with offering that function but you can't blame them it is quite the complicated thing I believe, but it sure would have been nice. But in Vegas you can just flip the video tracks, all of them, then when you drop into the timeline you are ready to go. A few things will be a little awkward at first but quickly you forget about it. You do gain a tinie bit of speed too... but with these flips nowadays you hardly notice it. It is more about whether you like having a step up in your front end of the camera... unfortunately if doesn't get any shorter but it is much more streamlined, less support to hassle with just pop in your RR matte box.

Ahh I too was under the impression the long tube was gone if not using the flip.
Thanks PaPa!

Drew, what helps edge to edge is the lenght of travel between the GG and the camera and the tube is there for that very reason, light travels a lot in the flip also.

I think it is more of a matter of whether you have a monitor that can flip and you are ok with a flipped post? Are you getting enough? How much do you value the support savings and cleaner front end? Are you going to mount a super telephoto, no flip would be nicer IF you really need that sort of lens. Don't forget the tinie winie bit of extra light!

It is really about the post... who's doing it? Is it a long project? More importantly, did you look up how your NLE works with flipped footage and looked up every thing you are planning on doing... for example rotoscoping... in Vegas the image is flipped... but it really didn't bother me much, hehe... you would have thought it would be a royal PITA, but not much of a difference fron right side up and upside down.

Ahh, alright then. Thanks.

I own a JVC HD200, which can do the flipping in camera, but i suppose also purchasing a flip module would be beneficial in case I end up using it with some other camera as well.
