I have been trying to build a custom prerset for the xha1 to match it to the 550d and i wanted to share with you what i did as i feel its useful way to do it.
To match the cameras easily amd quickly using vegas (or any other NLE) and canon eos utility.
Firstly connect your xha1 up to vegas and go to capture and put the camera in to shooting mode, you then should be able to see what the camera is pointing at, place some articles of different colour in front of the camera be sure to include something white.
Next attach the 550d to computer and ensure it is pointing at the same scene as the xha1. Open up the canon eos utility and got to camera settings remote shooting. Then click on live view shoot and you should get the picture up on your screen.
Then white balance both cameras.
So now you should have both cameras on the same monitor with a bit of jigging windows around. then if you go into the xha1 menu and pick customise you can then start to adjust the settings on the camera and you can see it on the screen side by side with the 550d, making it easier to match them in realtime.
Dont split the images on to two monitors unless calibrated correctly, better to do it on one monitor.
You can do this with any canon cameras, the 7d and 5d i assume.
My settings i got from doing this.
They are reasonably close, far better than before,
I set both cameras white balance using a white card and custom setting.
I have read that the colour profiles on 550ds vary so this may not work for everyone.
