Settings to match 7D with HV40?

Really having a hard time and still looking for the best settings to match the HV40 with the 7D footage. I agree they are different tools, however, I would like to try video with DOF from 7D and 2nd view with HV40.

Any advice/settings would be much appreciated.

You'll probably have to match in post. That's the way to get the most precise match. One thing to consider is trying to get the most flat, neutral image possible out of both cameras. Doing so will naturally get the footage looking close, I would imagine.

Yeah I'd be less concerned about things like gamma and color and much more concerned about the massive difference in depth of field. You'll have a lot more DOF on the HV40.

I shot some side by side with my HV30 right after buying my 7D. My HV30 is sold but I can tell you they are very very different cameras image wise. The HV series has a nice smooth HDV picture with plenty of light but low sensitivity sensor with pretty good dynamic range with plenty of light but much worse response in low contrast scenes with lower light levels.

It's also much, much noisier in those especially with Cinegamma on. You will need to alter both the 7D and the HV to make them close. Don't use Cinegamma unless you download or set a very flat picture style.

Also, you will need to stop down the 7D quite a bit for 7D - several stops depending on lenses. Finally, I woulld shoot 1/40th shutter on 7D to 1/48th on HV to smooth 7D even more. A light low contrast filter on 7D may be needed if you use Cinegamma.
