Settings for LCD

Any advice on settings for LCD to be more representative of what the camera is recording?

Also IRE for Zebra Stripes, should I leave it at 85 or is there a better setting for this camera?

BTW, I like the way they tucked the LCD in, very James Bond...

The LCD is overly bright, as per the actual exposure, so you need to be a bit careful with it or you might end up underexposing your footage. Try calibrating it to the color bars, but while that's the "right thing to do" it's kind of pointless because you'd need to recalibrate every time your lighting conditions change, and then you'd also need to ensure you were viewing the LCD from the same angle every time... sigh...

LCDs are not ideal for judging exposure for so many reasons. So the zebras are vital; I locked 'em on 100 and left 'em there, and then only let the brightest brightest bits in the image just trigger the zebras. Canons don't tolerate overexposure well at all, so don't let too much go into the 100. Frustrating thing about the Canon was that a) you could only have one zebra level, and b) you can't have both zebras and peaking on at the same time. So set up your zebras at whatever you're comfortable with, I liked 100, and then get used to toggling between zebras and peaking before rolling your shot.
 
Actually, I just looked it up in the manual. Unless there is an adjustment need to be made for Peaking then I should be good.

Peaking is the only focus aid you can have engaged while actually recording footage. Magnification only works when recording is paused.

I've found that the A1's LCD is noticeably sharper than the H1's EVF and when combined with peaking is very easy to judge focus with.

Actually, I often achieve focus without peaking engaged, but I always check with peaking if it's critical.
 
I am going to experiment tomorrow. It seems if I zoom in all the way to the center of my critical focus, magnify, peak and fine tune focus, then reset my to proper zoom.

I just want to get in some decent light to see if the focus changes with the different focal lengths. I know it should not.

The users guide is fine for the most part. But it really does drop the ball when it comes to describing the custom presets and how they effect each other. Is there a better resource for this? Or is it called film school?

I know Barlow is working on something, is it out? Is there a Preset library put together somewhere that I have missed?
 
I am good on the custom functions, good system using numeric values.

I do have a question on the custom Preset buttons.

I under stand you use the select button to choose which preset you want to use. Then push on/off to do just that.
Here's the question... When the preset is on or activated, is it blinking or steady?


You can keep selecting either way.
