I shoot video for tv news at night what are the best setting for the XHA1 in low light .. keep in mind this video need to look its best for news

Hm, low light, A1, looking its best. Not really possible. You'll probably be disappointed with the result. A1 is definitely the wrong camera for that line of work.

Yea, but you have to keep in mind that you're comparing the A1 with a camera that's not too good in low light to begin with. It might win by a hair but that's not really saying much. It's at least three stops slower than a PD170 and in low light conditions it's barely distinguishable from some of the older three chips. I do some videographing and many of the concerts and recitals I film had really poor lighting, in which the A1 simply chokes on. Most of the time I was at wide open iris, 3-6 db of gain and still find that I have to bump up the brightness in post at the expense of gain to get usable footage. Colors become muted and smeary; a world apart from when lighting is decent. If you're doing news gathering at night then it's likely there'll be even less lights available. To squeeze the most dynamic range out of this camera, set it to Cinegamma Normal, Black Stretch and bump up the Setup level and Master Ped a few notch.

But you'll soon find that gain is your friend and that you're sacrificing image quality every step of the way to get that usable image. And shoot SD because the noise shows up more in HD.
