Serveral CF card, fast backup - best practice?

Hi guys,

what would be the fastest/best (maybe also easy should be in there) way to backup 6 pcs CF cards from Canon XF300? Usually on a MacBook Pro, but could be Wintel aswell.
One man band, meaning no time to fiddle with puter during each day shooting. If MacBook Pro is used it will be with Express port.

Delkin ImageRouter? (4 CF cards at once, easy)
Sonnettech Qio? (2 cards at once, fast)
Nexto? (then you would have to empty Nexto to puter aswell, fast, expensive)
Delkin ExpressCard 34 (fast? some say 40MB/sec, some say 20 MB/sec)
Serveral USB readers conected to puter at once? (is that even possible?)

Using a single USB reader would be to slow, taking to much of the evening away. It seems like the Sandisk FW 800 reader is no longer availible?!?

(sorry if this topic should be in other side of forum, Mod - please feel free to move)

Rob,

I have been using the Nexto NVS2500 with excellent results. Granted, the price tag is a bit high but it is definitely outweighed by the ease of the workflow, especially for a "one man band".

With the XF300, the Cf cards are copied and can be verified with one selection. For archiving, it has a sync feature that automatically syncs and indexes its contents on external drives. I have mine synced to two individual 1 TB drives for a redundant back up procedure and yet i feel that one more drive may be necessary for security procedures. For the price of the drives, knowing that your footage is secured on multiple hard drives provides priceless peace of mind.

When transferring to A NLE like FCP (log and transfer), its quite easy to select just the footage you need from a clip instead of the whole clip. This takes less room on your editing machine and your originals are safely stored. Developing a work flow for your cards is helpful in knowing that all your footage is backed up and stored before erasing the cards.

Good luck,

Matt
