Seriously, YouTube?

I open my email this morning, and I get a message from YouTube. It went a bit like this:

"Dear hawkteflon,

Wow! They've got a long road ahead of them if they're going to eliminate very video with copyright music in it. I heard there were 13,000 videos being uploaded every minute. I wouldn't want that job.

Well, I've finally made it to be big enough to be not known at all.

But are you surprised? You used copyrighted material without proper permissions. And you got called on it.

YouTube doesn't screen each video as it is uploaded. It takes some one else reporting the copyright infringement, and more and more folks are starting to police those things on the Internet.

And I wouldn't cite the volume of uploads as any reason for them not to follow up on copyright claims. You gambled and lost. Just be glad that your video was simply blocked and you aren't being fined/sued instead.

A buddy of mine got tagged too. But yeah, I agree with C2V.

They probably have some audio recognition software crawling the server, and flagging stuff for further review.

Oh no, I'm not surprised at all ... it was some joke video I made almost 3 or so years back. By no means am I defending what I did.

I've just finally become a statistic.

haha i made a music video for a contest that a band had, and the audio got removed! I found that pretty funny, the band was promoting themselves through that and the video ended up being stripped from anything having to do with them :)

But you've got to love the irony. A video about Unnecessary Censorship is being censored by YouTube. lol

:)
