Serious question......

I'm a member of a number of online video forums and obviously take interest in all things related to the HVX (of which I have) and FCP. I read about many people who have questions relating to the ingesting of HVX clips into FCP and that includes DVXuser.com.

Now, for the absolute life of me I can't understand WHY in the hell people are using FCP to ingest clips. The main but not only reason being that FCP will strip and delete all of the clips precious Metadata. I have mentioned this but have never actually got a reply.... is it ME thats missing something or don't people know of the benefits of P2CMS and Raylight?

Are you talking about ingesting strait from a p2 into fcp?

My answer would be this... I care about what's on my slate, always the first image in every clip, way more than metadata.

If I ever did need the meatdata I could get it off of the backed up p2 data on my master and or safety drives

Exactly right- for some folks metadata is absolutely essential and for others it is completely unessential. The bottom line is that if you're used to working with any tape based media you are getting the exact amount of metadata you're used to i.e. none. However if you want to enjoy the benefits of metadata and native MXF, fortunately the third party solutions exist to allow you to work with FCP.

Hi,
I've had an HVX for a while now but only bought a p2 card now (32Gb!!!). I'm a little confused about the different workflows.
If you import straight into final cut you'll get the .mov files. For back up could you not just copy them again onto another hard drive? Why do you need the metadata? Having them in a database, and finding them easier, is that the main point?

I haven't got a good work flow worked out for myself yet so I'd greatly appreciate any help or advice.

thanks
