GH3 Serious Problem with GH3 1080p 60fps files

I shot several clips at 1080p 60fps, when conformed to 24fps for slow mo everything is fine as usual. Problem is in Final Cut Pro these files when I add a cross dissolve, fade out, or basically any transition I get a weird flicker in the clip. It's like it goes bright then dark.

I do not have this problem with the regular shot 24fps nor with my other footage of 60fps at 720p with GH2 as a second camera.

My only problem is with the 1080p 60fps conformed to 24fps, I get a weird flicker in all of the clips when applying any transition, Help Me out!!!!

Thanks

So you are conforming in Cinema Tools? Have you tried converting to ProRes after conforming?

Cinema tools will not Conform the original files.... I have to convert to Pro Res so it can be recognized. As of now I'm just straight cutting, but I need to figure this problem out.
Thanks for the help

Does this happen only in the timeline or when you render and/or export the sequence as a MOV?

What are your sequence settings? You mentioned it's being intercut with ProRes 720p footage. Is the timeline 720p or 1080p?

Sounds like the old Luma Clamping issue that FCP had back in version 1 (in about 2000 and 2001!). The dissolves (or any filters) were rendering whites at a different level than plain footage. The symptom was dissolves that "popped" brighter.
I don't know what to tell you. I'm using FCP 7, and the few 1080 60p clips I've shot with my GH3 don't exhibit this problem. I probably don't have to ask, but is your 60p in the 50mb IPB or in AVCHD?

Oh, is the flicker happening with rendered transitions, or when they play back in real-time without rendering? If they aren't rendered, try rendering them and see if that solves the problem.

Timeline is 24p Pro Res 1080. When I add a Dissolve without rendering it is correct, when I render it though it exhibits that problem. Basically what you described is the exact problem I am having. I tried an export and it shows up there as well, driving me crazy as I have never seen this before

Thanks for the help.

Have you checked your render control under sequence settings? Try changing to best quality... Maybe trash preferences & try again? Or maybe try uploading a sample clip or two to wetransfer or sendspace and see if the problem is the same for one of us w/ our setup on FCP 7

I trashed preferences and nothing, render control is at best quality and nothing......
This really is driving me crazy as I have never experienced this before and it is only happening with the 1080p 60fps footage converted to 24fps, the 720 60fps converted to 24 does not have this problem......

I don't know. Seems like it's probably a Final Cut problem, not a GH3 problem. Shouldn't the title be something more like:

Serious Problem in Final Cut when editing GH3 1080p 60fps files

+1

At this point I'd pull the 60p file into After Effects and render the slow motion there if it's possible for you.

I've had similar experiences in Sony Vegas Pro that were fixed by rendering out the conformed footage ( using the Cineform CODEC, ProRes should be fine in your case ), and then applying the visual fx to the rendered files.

You could also try using compressor to convert from 60p to 24p

I'm a try that next and update. Also this should not be happening so please telling me to update to another NLE is not really going to help me now for something that should not be happening,
Thanks

Go into the sequence settings under video processing and see if you're set at 10-bit or 8 bit YUV, if 10-bit then set to 8-bit and try it again. That is a common issue with plugins not able to support 10-bit YUV.

I converted the original h.264 60p files to 23.98 ProRes in compressor and loaded the file into FCP and it works now with no problem.....

So either Mpegs Streamclip or Cinema Tools is causing the problem when I am converting the files.....
I normally batch process all of my .h264 files and convert them to prores, then any 60p files I want in slow motion I convert them in Cinema Tools. So somewhere between Mpeg and Cinematool there is a problem happening which I never encountered before.

The thing is the clip does slow motion fine and everything looks perfect, only then when I apply a fade transition is when I get this flicker.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

My hunch is that the culprit is MPEG Streamclip. But it's still very puzzling. I convert my clips to Pro Res in Compressor also, then use Cinema Tools to conform the 60p clips to 24p. I have not encountered your problem and I'm also using FCP 7. What computer are you using? What version of OSX? I'm grasping at straws, but it might have something to do with either the graphics card or the version of Quicktime you have.
