Serious Problem w/ A1 still images.

Can someone tell me what the hell is going on here? Sorry if it's a common issue, I've read up on this camera quite a bit and have never heard of something like this. In video mode it works fine but in card mode, well, thats a whole different story.

And also, you can't tell because of the way photobucket downrezzed the image, but the entire lower field is black, except in areas where the upper field became very dark, due to compression.

Tried it. It seems like the shutter (i think its just the iris really) isn't closing properly after an "exposure." At a high shutter speed, I get horrible smearing like seen in that picture, but at a slower shutter speed, the whole image is almost black, and all that's visible is the edges. Looks like some cheesy emboss filter.

It has nothing to do with the card. Even if there's no card in it, and I "take" a photo, for that two second long preview that I see it before it disappears into nowhere, I can see the smearing, and the image flickering like I've never seen, which is a result of the LCD and VF alternating between the two fields - one of them is a smeared, or underexposed image (depends on the shutter speed) and the other is black.
And this camera does not belong to me, so I'm not planning on sending it to Canon at all. I'll just not take out this particular one out of the four that our TV studio has, unless someone can figure out the problem.

Yeah, especially TV studio rigs that get taken out exclusively by high school students like me...
So it sounds like its a mechanical problem, probably induced by someone dropping it. I forgot to mention that while its set for a slow shutter speed, if I take a photo once, the thing is almost black, like I said before, but if I take a second one right after that, it's also black, but the iris opens and closes about 6 more times all by itself. All well.
