As a general rule, yes. But I would not get a cable without confirming what kind of plug is on the computer.

Macs have six pin powered.

You need a 4-pin to 6-pin cable.

smelni, I am in the final stages of ordering my HVX here in PAL-land, so I have not had a chance to use the HVX. From your statement, does this mean you can record over and undercranking cranked footage to DVC Rack, and if so, does it drop the none tagged frames or is it recognised in a FRC, and if so, is there a PC FRC?

yours contingently,
-td :D

I am testing that now - it appears that it records the frames properly but i dont know if they will be recognized in the NLE - so maybe not - might need a p2 card for that.

Barry -

do you know how to handle over and undercranking with dvcrack - even if it records the proper frames they prob arent tagged since they are saved as a normal avi - do we need to use a p2 card for this?

I have the beta and cant figure it out.

Barry,

DVC Rack 'ALT + Enter' provides full screen monitoring. In this mode will my 1920 x 1200 laptop screen monitor:

1. HVX 1080 pixel for pixel/full screen; and
2. for HVX 720, will DVC Rack scale to full screen or pixel for pixel 720 display?

I had to ask, camera will take time to arrive here.... Thanks in advance Barry

smelni,

Thanks for the feedback. I since found this thread, though I can not explain how you can make it so:

DV Rack interested parties, worth a read: http://www.seriousmagic.com/downloads/documentation/DVRackGuideWebDL.pdf

I've only set up my camera to my pc using usb2... what are the correct settings to connect camera to pc via firewire, to use with Serious Magic's DVC Rack beta?

Actually that setting is irrelevant for working with DVC Rack. You're not going to be going into PC/DUB mode, and that menu setting only affects PC/DUB mode.

There is no setting necessary for using DVC Rack; the firewire port is always streaming live firewire data when you're in camera mode or in playback mode and playing a clip back.

Hmmm. Then I wonder why DVC Rack is not recognizing my camera, though it is attached? It could be that my computer isn't recognizing... but why wouldn't it?

DV Rack and MacBook Pro 15"

DV Rack and MacBook Pro 15"

Would DV Rack still be an advantage with a MacBook Pro 15", since it's w/o fw800 functionality?

Unless he is planning to run it with Boot Camp...

...back to my question though... any idea why my PC may not be recognizing the HVX? Any ideas on what to do?

Any help on this, related to DV Rack/DVC Rack:

"... any idea why my PC may not be recognizing the HVX? Any ideas on what to do?"

The only reason a PC wouldn't recognize an HVX would be a connection issue (or, having the HVX in 720pN mode). If you're in DV or DV50 or 1080 or 720p (not pN) mode, the HVX should be recognized. If it's not, it's an issue with your cable or your firewire ports.

Or your operating system. You need WinXP SP2.

Two questions, Telebay:
1) Are you running the retail version of DV Rack or the beta version of HD Rack (formerly "DV Rack with the Hi-Def PowerPak," and before that "DVC Rack").
2) What res/frame rate mode is the HVX in?
