Serious Magic/HVX

Just tried out the clips DVC Rack generates. I can drag 'n' drop the .AVI files and the Apple QT files right onto the timeline in EDIUS Broadcast, it works exactly like you'd expect.

Because of this, I'm confident that the QT files will drag 'n' drop straight onto the timeline in FCP.

None of the files worked in Vegas (as I expected). So presumably they wouldn't work in Premiere Pro either. I don't know if Serious Magic plans on making any sort of Raylight or CineForm-aware version?

I don't use Premiere Pro 2, so... hmm, I'll have to try it and see if it works with Edius.<snip>
I have Edius Broadcast V4.01 (not the trial), and the AVI files can be drag-and-dropped right into the timeline.

Probably the DVC Rack AVI's can be converted without recompression into
Raylight AVI's. If you want to upload one to me I can make that happen.

I have the MBP with BootCamp and the DVC Rack Beta. I'm getting MacDrive 6 to see if I can record to an eSATA 750GB drive formatted for HFS+ via a Firmtek eSATA expresscard. Until I test out MacDrive 6, I won't know if this combo will work, but if it does, I'll have plenty of recording space when tethered to my laptop. It's a portable, but not mobile solution.

If you do this, you don't need to drag 'n' drop.

BTW, don't even think about getting the Addonics eSATA expresscard for MBP. They don't have drivers for Mac.

Also, it should be noted that whenever I buy an Apple product, they come out with a better product or lower the price. So I expect a new MBP to be released soon.

(FCP 5.1.1, DVC Rack, and a new Core 2 Duo MBP with *hopefully* a PCMCIA as well as an ExpressCard slot!) Then I'd use DVC Rack for capturing to QT, which would be drag 'n' drop editable in FCP.

Shouldn't be too much longer...

DV Rack is looking like a must have, but what I'm wondering is: Can you flip the image for M2 users?

Once the header is tweaked they do! I've tested this.

I did a post 3 days ago and somehow it was removed. Or maybe I had one to many Scotch. I will try again

My first try with DVC Rack was a Desktop DC AMD 4200 1 g ram, 250 7200 hd. 1080/60 and 720/24. Imported to Edius 4.0 trial and every thing went smooth.

2nd project. I grabed my old JVC HR10 ..shot 720p with DVC Rack then switched to the HVX 200. shot 1080/60 and 720/24 . all clips were imported into a Laptop DC AMD 4800, 2 g ram. 2 raid 0 100 g hd with Edius Broadcast 3.61..
No problem!

Well, as I said, I'm able to capture but not to use the clips.

But apart of it I have some suggestions to do to Serious Magic:

1) The ability to change clips names inside DVCRack

2) In DDR, the ability to see clips info (Size, Format, Resolution, Aspect, Frame ratio, etc)

3) To be able of use any installed codec (as in any video editing program)

PS: What means in DDR's Clips info the Note: item?, how could it be used?

You can rename a clip by clicking on its name in the DVR recorder window. The new name will also become the base name for all subsequent clips, i.e. if you rename the clip to "My Masterpiece", DVC Rack will use that as the base name for the next recording as well, and append a numeric suffix to make it unique.

Don't forget to eject a clip before trying to do anything with it in another program.

That's fine, but what about been able to give a name to each clip as in Premiere?
when you stop capture, there is a requester asking for a name.

I said this because I have every take named in the scrip in my productions, in order to make edition easier, and I'll be glad to do what I suggest, may be as an option or some.

Here is: as in Premiere I give a name to my first capture wich becomes base name and the program gives a sequential number; next capture if I do nothing an accept, the name is the same with next number; but if I give other name, it becomes base name and so on. (it will be nice in DVCRack :dankk2: )

Is there any way to use Cineform Aspect HD with DV Rack to convert the files so that they can be used in PPRO 2? Just downloaded the Aspect demo, but it doesnt recognize the AVI files created by DV Rack. It's a great program (DV Rack), but we've gotta' be able to use the files in our editors. I can't change to another editor. too much money and time learning this one.

Help!

Instead of reading 16 pages of posts, I'm going to ask this at the risk of repeating someone's question:

Will DV Rack work in 1080 mode?

What if the laptop resolution is less than the resolution you are shooting in?

Thanks for responding. Ordered mine this morning.

Ernesto, DV Rack / DVC Rack will not prompt for a name when you stop recording, it uses the name it assigned to the clip when it started recording.

However, you can rename the clip at any time, even while you are still recording to it, and as I mentioned, this becomes the base name for the next clip you record, with a unique sequential numeric suffix. This should work very well with your existing workflow.

BigMike, yes, it supports 1080.

The normal Field Monitor window in DV Rack is not resizable and therefore shows a scaled-down version of what you are recording, but it lets you zoom in to 1:1 and even beyond. I believe you can also run it in full-screen mode, but I've never tried that. The minimum screen size for using the program is 1024x768, but you do not need a display that matches your recording resolution.

Yes you can run in full-screen mode, just press <ALT-ENTER>. On my lame Pentium M 760 single-core laptop it can actually display a full 1080/60i screen, at full-screen, and full frame rate. Which is just amazingly cool. I expect it will completely fly on a new MBP dual-core system.

 Same for me in my Athlon 64, HP Pavillion ZV600 laptop, wonderfull !
The best field monitor you can get for it's price, and more.
