After rewatching episodes 4-6 of star wars (it took me about six months to come to terms that I actually owned the abominable dvd set), watching episodes 1-3, then watching this, i gladly welcomed Serenity into my heart.
It really is a fun and cool movie. I have no idea what you guys are talking about with the dialogue; i thought it was bloody brilliant. And, I'm sure most of you people hate mentioning awards, but Whedon did get an oscar nod for helping write Toy Story, so you can't say he's not a good writer.
I also liked the cast. I mean, granted, they weren't awesome actors (the Baldwin guy wasn't very good at all), but they retained a charm to them that is just as important as acting in some respects, and especially in a film like this.
Yeah, whoever said Mal is like Han Solo should be was right on the money. His psuedo jokey actions are examples of how the movie is not cliched: it sets itself up for cliches, then dodges them (such as the "do you wanna run this ship?" bit).
I can't wait to watch it again on DVD. I've been watching the show every friday on sci fi, and I really dig it. I'm sorry some of you couldn't enjoy it, cuzy ou're missing out on smart and fun sci fi.
Bought the DVD as soon as I got out of work. Still love the movie. The outtakes are pretty funny. It's amazing they got anything done with Nathan Fillion fooling around all the time.
I have the dvd that just came out, and I will prob get the next one (2 disc-er) when it comes out. Gotta have the complete set, ya know? I love the series and the movie did not disappoint. I've not watched the dvd yet. Too busy to sit still that long. But its on my to-do list.
