All right, let's be ABSOLUTELY CLEAR HERE.

There was NO PRESSURE from Panasonic, PERIOD. End of story. And even if there had been, it would not have figured into the decision. There's nothing Panasonic gives the board that it can take away if we don't do what they want. They have no power here.

Cross-posting is something that's frowned on by most forums; DVInfo even has a huge bold permanent sticky on the top of it that says "please don't cross-post".

To be fair Barry, Chris's sticky in that case is saying not to cross post the same thing within DVinfo's forums, in order to avoid confusion and conversations getting split up.

He doesn't say anything about posting on other websites.

Oh, I realize that John...I wasn't trying to imply anything.
Hell, I moderate on one of the boards that has the same policy.

Just pointing out that it probably wasn't the best example.
I was being a bit too nitpicky probably.

Actually that's true -- I saw where Chris had to elaborate in detail what the policy is, and he did specifically say he doesn't care what gets said on another board, he just doesn't want cross-posting within his own board. He also said specifically not to drag in traffic or discussions from other boards onto his own.

He runs a tight ship, and he's a class act.

Hey I was basically out doing house renovation for three days and the ____ hits the fan. Trust me we had no part in this. Michael can do what ever he wants with the camera. I think perhaps the postings after the article is what did him in. But it sure wasn't Panasonic.

Best,

Jan

yeah.. simultaneous co-ordinated banning from 3 different sites seems a bit odd, one has to infer that it was because of the article + Panasonic pressure. He was a free flowing fish before that :)

Was there simultaneous, co-ordinated banning? I was surprised he was banned here, but shocked that he was banned from the Cow. Dealings with members are private, obviously, but the one thing I can say is that issues were brought up and private messages exchanged weeks ago, and I'm certain nothing about the banning had anything to do with this particular article.

But -- here's the part I don't get... there's *nothing* in that article of his that anyone at Panasonic would find offensive. He said he wants the Italian Guys to saw the lens off his HVX and mount a B4 mount. Who could argue with that? If that's what you want, do it -- it's your camera.

I mean, yes, there were some words like "shortchanged" that maybe Panasonic's marketing department might wish that he'd chosen a different word, but -- to insinuate Panasonic was behind any coordinated ban is just plain X-files... and I'm pretty sure there'd have to be something a LOT MORE INSIDIOUS than what was in that one article. That's just silly talk.

I mean, his thread, including the link to the article, is still here and still active. If Panasonic were twisting DVXUser's arms, to the extent where they would demand that DVXUser unrighteously ban a member, don't you think they'd want the thread deleted too?

As David said -- Panasonic has no influence over what happens on this forum. Jarred runs this forum, and he's about the most rogue, independent, and un-influencible forum boss you'll find.

You'd have to ask Ron Lindenboom about whatever happened on the Cow. That was a surprise, but I've seen Ron be quite patient as well, dishing out warnings for weeks before he takes action.

how many Mods are there anyway?
On DVXUser? I don't know. A lot. At least half a dozen, and maybe twice that.

The moderators here are rather "heavy handed" shall we say, and do tend to hide behind their positions without explaining in any form who, what, why, when etc.

Decisions are arbitrarily made, without discussion.

And I do know of what I speak.

I don't think they are going to just ban you for one thing without warning. Its already been stated that they generally PM you or e-mail you if there is an issue, and give you several chances or warnings. Obviously Panasonic had nothing to do with it. Just curious though, how would you ban someone for life? Couldn't they just come up with a new screen name and start all over again? Who knows, even that one unmentionable name could be lurking amongst us, right, or am I wrong??
