Thanks John, any word on framerate options with ProRes? And whether 12-bit will be available with the ProRes4444 recording?

60p max for Prores HQ 422 and Prores422, and 12-bit 4444 is coming in the near future but only at 29.97fps max from the looks of things.

All resolutions HD only.

I have to say I was expecting more than HD ProRes given that the FS700 and FS7 are about to have 4k ProRes recording, albeit with an external recorder. Higher resolutions would probably be a little tricky with SXS cards data rates but I was expecting at least 2K and hoping for ProRes XQ.

Hopefully Sony will remedy this by providing a 444 XAVC variant sometime soon. The competition certainly isn't waiting. Panasonic has a 444 ready to edit codec in the form AVC Ultra and Arri is obviously doing their thing with ProRes XQ. Hopefully Sony will answer with a similar option for their high end cameras.

http://www.panasonic.com/business-solutions/avc-ultra.asp

"AVC-ULTRA 4K will deliver 4K image (4096 x 2160 resolution, 4:4:4 sampling, 24pfs) compressed to about 400Mbps from the source image of 7.6Gbps."

""ProRes 4444 XQ offers 12-bit RGB encoding with a low compression ratio of 1:4.5 that maintains the superior tonal range of Log C, while providing the speed, ease of use and familiarity of ProRes."

Thanks Dennis,

I wonder if those are the formal 24p/25p/30p/50p/60p recording modes, and whether S&Q motion is a separate thing (I certainly hope so - I have no interest in 50/60p recording, just 25p overcranked to 50/60p).

For the moment it seems like the only way to get 4:4:4 recording in compressed codecs is to shoot 4K XAVC in 4:2:2 and then downconvert to 2K 4:4:4 (which is a frustrating additional step).

The big plusses for ProRes are 12-bit, and the simplicity of the drag-and-drop file-based edit workflow (no dicking around worrying about individual card file structures and painful things like that).

A 12-bit 4:4:4 2K XAVC option would shut me right up though - I hope they bring that out.

I'd say that FPS is not spelled out. They are only showing system frequency. I'm sure S&Q will be higher. Also, announced is a new server based recorder that when paired with the F55 frame rates of up to 360fps can be achieved in XAVC HD.
