F55: September 12th - important news for F5/F55

Yeah, they're ceasing support/End Of Life for the F5/55 and this new camera will be their flagship. Lol.. :Drogar-Evil(DBG):

Free Prores? Higher frame rates? Does anyone know what time the announcement is supposed to happen? If it's Amsterdam time, it' going to be a late night for those of us on the other side of the Atlantic.

ProRes, I imagine is really going to be the extent of it.

I heard the embargo is until 3am PDT the 12th, which is noon in Amsterdam if I'm not mistaken. I do not know if that is the same time as the "press event".

and "announcemts".

I agree with ProRes info. Price and future date in 2015 announced.

That would be awesome(sarcasm) if their big news for the 5/55 was finally telling us the ProRes upgrade is $5000 and will be ready in June. Epic..

**Edit -9/12/14 Haha!, I called it!, ProRes 4444 12-bit not available till June 2015. But good on em to even include 12bit 4444, now they have 9 months to work on including 444 at 4K.

I'm betting on a 4:4:4 XAVC codec upgrade.

12-bit 4:4:4 XAVC (in 2K obviously) as the XAVC codec theoretically allows would be a fantastic addition. Particularly if it still allowed HFR recording.

it would also be a great way to differentiate the F5(5) from Sony's newer 4:2:2 XAVC camera(s).

12-bit 444 would be awesome even though I just sprung for an R5 RAW recorder last month, oh well, these cameras just keep getting better which isn't typical so I ain't complaining (much).

444 would be great, but if they disable the 4K hack in the process they won't be getting me as a new customer.

It's very hard to believe they won't include 4K at this point. Unless they somehow come out and make it a paid upgrade with the rationale that some internal changes are needed. Maybe a larger heat sink or something wacky like that.

A larger heat sink because the processor is actually doing less work! (no need to down-res)
Don't think I'll be paying much for that upgrade?

Downrezzing 4k to 2k isn't trivial, but it's WAY less work than encoding 4k in H.264. H.264 is very complex, and needs a TON of processing power to do it right.

They announced a pair of wings that pops out from every camera sold to make every F5 and F55 camera into a WiFi controlled drone. At noon (GMT) on the 12th all cameras will rise to the sky and connect creating Skynet. Seeing all hearing all in 4k glory.

ok so it must be September 12th somewhere in the world ;)

What's the "big" news?!?

I've got an idea. Drive to NJ, knock on Juan Martinez's door. Tell him it's 3AM in Amsterdam, and SonyUK is letting you down.

If you're not in jail by morning, tell us what he told you.

Remember only 3-4 years ago how much criticizing there was for Sony's lack of marketing?

They sure are making up for it.
