Sensor overheating while shooting video

So when i download the filmes of my 7d and play them in quick time they are all jekry. why is this? when am finish converting and exporting the footage looks fine http://www.vimeo.com/8367482 can any one help me

Hi Pollykore,

The 7D encodes its files using H.264, which can be difficult to playback in real time - its very resource heavy.

After being converted to a lighter format, it should playback easily.

Can the HDMI output stream be recorded uncompressed HD to the nanoflash?

Sort of. You would need an HDMI to SDI converter box, which Black Magic and Convergent Design both make. Then you end up with 4:2:2 8bit, bit the output image isn't full 1920X1080.

The output from the HDMI looks like this:

It then has to be upresed to full 1920. This clip was captured with the Black Magic Intensity, and it also needed to have the 3:2 pulldown removed as the BM records the 24p in a 29.97 AVI wrapper. The Nanoflash says that it can record at 23.976 so that should eliminate this step.

The nanoflash appears to be available for rent at a few locations. If you rent one to try it out, please post some results! : )

i have 7d and im very happy with it.i knew about the overheating problem before i purchased and i knew 7d is not for event videographers.i have jvc gy hd100 as amy main camera for wedding etc.... im using 7d for highlight purposes only which is greate.then you dont have to worry about minutes and temperature of sensor...Because 7d is not a video camera.its just pretending like its a camcorder.what do you expect from still camera?

7D overheating experiences

Hi
I have a 7D and have used it extensively for video and stills shoots. It has overheated on two occasions. Both times when I was filming video in direct sunshine and the weather was VERY hot, above 35 degress C, in the dead of summer in Cape Town. On both occasions I was filming lengthy shots of approx 10 minute clips. On both occasions I switched off as soon as I saw the warning sign, blew on it to cool down and continued shooting - cos I had to. I never got any pixelation or any strange video artifacts.

I also shot predominantly stills on an even hotter day and although the camera got really hot I never saw the warning sign once, so I think it is defenately a video thing..
