IF you want to shoot 2.35:1, it's already been said it would be desirable for the camera to only record the active picture area of aspect ratio 2.35:1, the logic being there's no point in recording picture which will be just black bars at the top and the bottom. The reduced data would allow either longer recording times and/or faster framerates for slowmotion.
However, if we could choose to record a slightly squarer aspect ratio of, for example, 1.88:1, but intended for a finished film ratio of 2.35:1 there would picture information above and below the intended frame which would allow for some reframing. If there was a mic boom in shot at the top you could crop the 1.88:1 to 2.35:1 a bit lower in the picture and if you wanted more headroom you could do the reverse, and there would be no image degradation involved. But as you are still not recording the whole 4K sensor image, you are still saving on data, albeit slightly less!
