Let me preface this by saying I don't have a lot of experience with dslr video. I switched up from a D90 to a GH2 after seeing the quality difference in the video and my desire to shoot more in that realm vs stills. So far it's great; doesn't have the magic for still photography that the D90 had, but it's a whole different world for video. The one thing that I have noticed that is bothering me is the halo/haze that surrounds bright light sources (headlights/streetlights) at night. I am not sure whether this is sensor bloom or not.
It gets better as you stop down the lens so I am unsure whether it is a result of flare on the lens or something with the sensor (or a combination). I would assume in a controlled environment I could put ND gel over headlights or other bright sources which would allow me to open the iris and not end up with a big blob around bare light sources. But, in a run and gun situation where you are trying to use available light, what solution do you propose?
Here is a video I shot to demonstrate. Nothing fancy, handheld, Cinema mode 24P, iso800, 20mm f1.7 Pancake @ f1.7.
If anyone could shed some light on this, it would be appreciated. I intend to attempt some narrative work at night so I am trying to think of solutions to this.
